If you remove it, it wont be in there any more.... . do a search for HC trap.

does the honeycomb spacer in the cold air intake help any in air intake, what happens if i remove it.
You have encountered the infamous HC (Hydro-Carbon Trap) or otherwise known as the Pre-Cat by some. Removing it has had no negative impact on my system. Supposedly it will improve airflow (less restriction) and give you a few extra horses to play with. I drove about 4K miles without one and eventually put in an aftermarket cold air kit.
Some CAI kits (K&N / BBK) use this in their setups and say that they do not require a "tune" afterwards. Not sure about that one since everyone says that the ECU is so sensitive that even some minor cahnges in airflow require a re-tune.
My GT never came with one...... and I was soooooooooooo looking to remove it

Not sure what the results are when removing the HC trap. But I do know from personal experience on the dyno that a tune is a MUST when doing a CAI. The A/F goes way off. The car is so sensitive I wouldn't doubt if taking the HC trap out drastically changes the A/F ratio.

With the HC trap being a minor restriction (Honeycomb) and my baseline Dyno showing that the A/F was still running factory rich, I think at least in my case (all others may be different) that it was safe to run without a tune after removing the HC. But I totally agree that with ANY CAI (Even the ones that say that it is not needed) a tune would be in order, and required.

Mine was crazy rich when stock too. Probably would not have been a problem for me to remove the HC either. Just an FYI if you're taking it out, may want to check to see if it helps or hurts...

the ECM is very sensative and removing the HC filter will Lean out your car causing a loss of HP.
You can try re-setting the computer by disconnecting the battery, but seriously, you should re-flash the ECM with the correct A/F ratio under 13:0:1 so that it will not lean out.

mines not, pockets are empty!! Where is this bee's nest/honey comb thingy??
Its called the Hydrocarbon trap, AKA HC trap. It is located just after the airbox within the air intake rubber tube. Again...remeber if you remove this w/o tuning or flashing the ECU you may end up with less performance than you started with. But judging by most '05 GT's it should be OK since they run PIG rich.

Hey Steps25,
Do you recommend removing this HC when installing the steeda cai and pred. tune? The instructions doesn't mention this. Thanks, Sonny

I ended up leaving mine in. Only because when I last dyno tuned w/ Steeeda tune the A/F was flatlined perfect 13.1. However, it can be removed and tuned to gain a bit more HP. I just haven't played around with it again. I was waiting for a revision tune released by Diablosport for the global spark adder.
