Ok, monday 11/14 I was told 3 to 4 more weeks for my grill. So 11/16 it was on my doorstep. Gonna try to do a little walkthrough here cause I love this mod so much it feels like when I 1st drove it home ;o)
The 1st thing to do was to pop out the 6 push pins to remove the radiator cover. Not very hard to do but tedious. A few of them went flying and I though I broke a few. They all still work just fine though.
Pulling out the stock grill was kinda tough. At 1st I was scared to pull too hard. In the end that was all that really was really needed. The next thing I did was paint the frame that was body color as per RedFire_Dave. Good tip thanks!
After taking out the stock fog lights it was time to put them in the SS grill. The way that the lights are designed you can only put them in one way. The right light will only go in the right slot and only facing one way or the mounts do not line up.
The SS grill has 4 rubber mounts where the stock light screws into with screws SS provided. You need to drill 1/8 in holes in the mounts 1st though.
I know Dave was saying his grill fit perfectly but the mounts for my lights on the SS grill were pretty bad. 2 lined up ok but the 3rd I had to drill through the plastic of the light to get the screw into the mount on the grill.
I either couldn't get it to fasten correctly or it was a bad design. Probably just me, lol. So I put a little 2 part epoxy on the fasteners to hopefully keep it from falling off ;o)
I goes back in pretty easy. Just plug in the extensions and then pop it back into place. I used wire ties / zip ties to try to hide the wiring the best I could. The driver side light hits the frame and almost prevents the grill from going in. Just a little push and it slipped under no problem.
Osiris,
Good step-by-step! It does look good. I wish someone would come up with something like this for the V6, only with the "Pony" lights (you know the smaller ones) side by side and close like that. I'm just not fond of the bigger lights in the grille. It looks good on yer GT, though.

Yup, I installed mine a couple of weeks ago. I have received lots of compliments but the third guy to compliment me said "It looks really nice except the bottom grille doesn't match". Crap -- he was right!
So I ordered the matching Street Scene speed grille for the lower grille. It is metal and powdered coated as well. It was a bear taking out the lower stock grille since those tabs just didn't want to push out -- really a firm fit. The speed grille is more open then the stock so I did paint some of the exposed areas behind the speed grille with Eastman's underhood black paint as I did before I installed the upper grille. I didn't want those areas painted "Redfire" to be sticking out like a sore thumb.
Came out really nice and now it matches ---- . I attached a picture.
Looks great Dave! Ya I was already looking at the bottom as well ;o) It doesn't bother me that much... yet...heh. So i'm sure within a few weeks i'll order mine as well. Thanks for good ideas on your install too btw.

Good job. Having looked at the photo's I have come to the conclusion that you are either a brave man or not married. The photo of you drilling in the grill towards the wood table.....

Hey Dave - I was wondering. What does the car look like without the lower grille. The FR500 has body colored struts and I was wondering if that is what it looks like with the lower grille removed. I'm thinking of removing it completely. Sorry to hijack your thread Osiris.

It wouldn't look good if it was completely removed. The ends of the stock lower grille are solid which hides the 4 mounting brackets for the tabs on the stock grille. There is a pair of these mouting brackets about 2 inhes apart on each side. The ones on the very end are about 3 plus inches wide and are attached on 3 sides. The 2nd pair are about 2 inches wide and are attached at the top & bottom. When I say attached they are part of the lower valance -- molded -- and that's why I painted black. I suppose you could cut them out but then again pretty flimsy to begin with -- might need for support.
