Dude(-tte?),

You don't wanna mess with ANY of that!

You have to get a tuner that's set for YOUR car. Or a tune that's set for the mod you bought, still for YOUR car!

Where did you get it? For what car is it? What mods? Octane? Etc.?

If you don't know, bring it to a STC shop, spring the 100-150 bucks and get a custom dyno tune!!!

Your XCal2 should have come with three tunes, an 87, 91, and 93 octane tune. It will download and save your stock tune then give you the option to upload one of the included tunes. Some SCT dealers try and screw you on the tunes, for example giving you only one of the generic tunes and then charging you for any thing else. If this is the case, immediately return the unit and find a reputable dealer that will include the generic tunes with the unit. You can call SCT and they will help you find a good dealer. I almost fell into this trap when buying my XCal2 and am very grateful to SCT for their advice.

As to the custom tuning options, the best thing to do here is work with your SCT dealer. They can modify the generic tunes to compensate for some mods, or you can go in for the full dyno treatment. You will have to pay for these services, which is legitimate. You should not have to pay for the generic tunes which were devolved by SCT and provided to the dealers when they purchase the dealer package.

Here are some resources for you:

Rant about dealers, FYI, not all are created equal.

Mine came with instructions, albeit somewhat confusing on first read. Should be pretty straight-forward once I actually am following the actions instead of just reading.

Maybe tonight, if I get the dam car back finally

I got mine from brenspeed about a week ago. There were some paper instructions that came with mine but it was really self explanitory. Just plug it in and follow the prompts. At one point you'll have to select the tune you want. I assume Brent included 3 with yours. I went straight to the 93. Very, very easy.

Default another question

did you guys do the initial plug in with key on or off? I know it will ask you to cycle the key in order to read the ecm, but it didn't say about the initial connection.

Plug it in with the key OFF and only turn on when the device instructs you to do so. Also should remove the fuel pump and fan fuses from the engine compartment fuse box before you flash. They pull straight out without a fuse puller.

Yes, I was amazed at it's simplicity. It plugs in above the driver's knee, and you get the progress report, (5% comp, 12% comp etc), like any old computer program. The two fuses are removable from under the hood too.

I got it in the mail and it had instructions. There are some in each little box. I liked how shiny everything was so i decided to spray some Eastwoods clear on the rough visible parts to protect it and make it easy to keep clean. When i sprayed the meter housing and pipe with pre-clean i was suprised to find a few metal shavings so be careful. Everything went together fine. Then i went looking for the plug and was looking all up under the dash. I got out my instructions, mags, internet....couldnt find it. Went back and its right on the edge of the plastic. 10 mins later im loaded up and its made a hell of a differance.
I ordered mine from Brenspeed too.

I didnt remove the fuses! You dont think that messed anything up do you??

No... Only risk is battery drain from the fuel pump/fan running. Has no affect on the flash.

The the fuse removal is just a precation. No professional tuner I have seen have done it! But if you tune once every three moons... why not?
