my mom had a 90 tbird with 500 miles on it- semi broke an axle and tandems/brakedrum rode down the side of her car- passenger windows/fender/quarter/roof/bumpers all wiped...the selling dealership(big ford dealer in Kent Ohio) filler her friggin roof with almost an inch of bondo- it fell out a couple years ago, I took a pic/sent with the vin to the dealer...body guy still worked there, assured me it had been repaired to 'safe' bullshit...I wasnt writing to try to get something out of them, but to tell the dealership their bodyshop sucked and somebody shoulda been castrated for doing that to a brand new car. They didnt give a darn. 'just move em out' is too often the attitude.

If you settle for a repair(I'd say NEW DOOR) get yourself one of those little magnetic paint thickness gages, and if theres over 1/16" filler (thats being too generous even...) in there, or a 'in the sunlight' reflection aint flat as it was I'd reject the 'repair' in a vocal fashion and have them either redo it right, or take and get an estimate on having it redone properly. A good bodyman will beat that out with little to no filler, and it will be arrow straight. A black car especially will suffer...
It wasnt bondo'd before they took it in, and shouldnt be afterwards. I'm sorry, but a repaint will never be as good as oem paint as its not baked at high temp, and cant be...just because it says FORD on the sign dont mean they wont sand it/fill it/paint it as fast as possible...If nothing else, at LEAST demand 5 yr rust/paint warranty on whatever they do.
its just a car and s**t happens, but It wasnt your fault and you should get the car back in at least as good of shape as it went in, plus something for your lost time. thats only right on their part, and I hope they take care of you. good luck, and sorry about being so negative, but Ive been screwed by dealer 'repairs' too many times...they aint all bad, but Ive only found 1 good one I would trust, been screwed over by several. A lot of the blame should go back to ford and their 'shop rate/hour' schedules- it encourages shortcutting if the guys are to make a living...bad thing about 'piecework'...gotta find someone that will treat it like its their mom's or something- theyre out there, but certainly not everywhere.

When I as at Post Falls Mazda (just downstream from Pre-Falls, I guess), in Idaho, a guy came in with a '96 RX-7. Very cool car and, like the Mustangs, did not say RX-8 anywhere on it. Anyway, he had just finished a lawsuit involving our nearest Mazda competitor.... at the competitor, while his car was in being "serviced" for an undiagnosed engine problem, it also, somehow, got a photo-ticket, going over 100MPH, across the Tacoma Narrows bridge. Now Tacoma, Washington is about 230 miles West of Post Falls. When this poor sod got his car back, the new front and rear tires were half worn and there was an ashtray full of cigarette butts. He is a non-smoker.

No one fessed up and no one lost their job.

The service manager is the only one with a key to the fenced-in area where the vehicles are kept. He also smokes, but in service, smoking is not uncommon so he was not the only one.

The customer won 100% repairs and a new, not rebuilt, not whatever they could find...new, from Mazda, shipped over, from Japan, rotary engine and a pair of turbos. His car was in our shop being *babied* and gone through, with a fine toothed comb, to find any damage, from any cause. It all got fixed. Every stone chip in the paint, every tiny hair out of place was put back until that car was like new or better. I bet we stuck it to the other dealer, with labor and prices, but that car shone like nothing else, when it left us.

Still a sickening feeling to think about someone doing that and not getting any payback.

If you demand new doors make sure you go back and check if they are putting new doors on. They might say they are giving you new doors but just changing the door skin. I used to work at a Ford dealer and my buddy who worked there smashed the door of a pre owned Focus parking it in the lot. The dealer just replaced the door skin, painted it and sold it as a new car. I saw many accidents happen at that dealership and the dealership I work at now. Sometimes the customers find out about it and sometimes they don't.

Thanks, dont want to hijack the thread too bad but- the poor 69 hasnt had a motor in it since 84-85 when it went into the garage- now has a lot of rot to deal with...sitting 20 years in unheated garage is way bad...I should be shot. If youre talkin about gallery pics- the first was a photochop (obviously) of 05 w/o quarter glass, the 'corner' in the mustang pic is just a plainjane 4 door 65 LTD my neighbor (original owner- his first new car...) gave me a couple years ago- long story here: http://www.hometown.aol.com/ford4v429/gal1.html - it sat in his unheated garage about 25-30 years, and had the scars to show it...
The 69 cougar is not mine, just one I saw locally...put some pics as I was telling someone that was the scoop I want for the 06- kinda like boss429, but tapers wider at rear and not as tall. I love those old cougars...

Great story- justice in cases like that is soo great to hear about...Glad that guy got his car fixed, but too bad the dealership just didnt do the right thing and make it right without court requiring it...hope they got soaked bad, but still they deserved worse in my book for not trying to make it right on their own.
When I bought my truck in 93, all the papers were done, they were to 'clean it up' and fix something I'd noticed...I was to pick up at noon next day...3:00 next day I show up- no truck...nobody knew where it was, come back tomorrow when your salesmans here type of thing...screw that I walked around to find my truck- it was in the paint shop getting the tailgate/quarter sprayed...took about 2 seconds till a bunch of folks came to explain then...somebody pulled-in behind it in a stick, shut off let the clutch out while still turning over rearended my truck,blah,blah,blah...I shoulda bent them over on that one, but needed the truck, and gave the benefit of the doubt...they added a rear bumper on it no charge, but paint never matched and few years later saw why they gave me the bumper...rust/paint peeling/bondo patch loose underneath...I guarantee if I had not found the truck that day they were not going to tell me about it- not that It wouldnt have been figured out anyway...
Ive been kinda wondering what happened to the first 06 mustang- after damaging it, supposedly the carrier owned it and had to repair/disclose as 'repaired'/sell it themselves, but I wouldnt doubt that car got sold as 'new'.
Ive only bought 4 new cars in my life so far, but 3 were screwed up before I ever got to take them home- my 85 camaro they burnt thru the paint polishing it- had to repaint(3 years later it started peeling/no warranty- sanded car to bare metal and reshot with deltron basecoat/clearcoat still looks good, but got rid of that one a couple months ago...) the 93 F150 above, and the first ordered mustang...not to mention getting rearended at 25-30mph on a testdrive in a new dodge(day before deciding to buy the truck). Ive not had good luck with new cars...hope the replacement mustang holds up- absolutely love it so far

slap! - oops back to the topic...

man that is some crazy luck with new cars........in oklahoma you have to disclose any damage done before delivery...and the end customer has to tell you if you are buying it used if they know it was crashed or painted....but you know when they are used they are tough to trace......the damaged transport mustang was probably bought by the transports insurance unless he was self insured....at any rate it can't be sold as new thank god.....but as far as it being used now.......look out next guy in line.....i hate dealers that don't do what is right by the customer....it gives the rest of us a bad name.....i wouldv'e made sure i found the guy on the mazda deal and fired his azz.......

I'd leave the insurance company completely out of it. If they end up paying for the damage, eventually they'll get their money back plus much much more out of you in higher premiums...

Just keep on 'em at the dealership. Don't give in. Make sure you're happy with the final result before you take your car. If all else fails, get the name of the most successful lawyer in town (for this type of case), and tell them you have no choice but to call [insert name here]. If they've heard the name before, it will scare them into making it right.

man,

I didnt see your sig pic- and didnt realize you had vertical doors to boot...that sucks even worse...I still dont understand though- they ding'd BOTH doors?
no idea about the conversion on your doors- are 'new' doors even an option or are they modified for the scissor hinges by the installer?

silly questions about those wild doors-
1) can they be opened without dropping window first?
2) looks hard to get in/out of...is it?
3) I'd always thought gas struts had to be installed 'rod down' to keep oil on seal so nitrogen dont leak before its time, pics look like rod vertical/up...just wondering.

Not for me, but pretty wild looking, and definitely different
Sure hope dealer makes it right-

I think you schould get the customer service phone number from the ford web site, and get the name of the manager for your region of ford. I would have a conversation with this regional rep and have him in my corner before I went to inspect/pickup the car.

6 months ago I was getting the runaround from the finance dept. at Landers ford in LR, about cancellation $$$ on disability ins. from my trade-in. It took me about 30 minutes on the phone with Ford's 800 #, but it only took about 3 minutes, of the GM of the dealership, on the phone smoochin my butt, and sending his courier over to my house that day with my check. These dealers like to act like they are the end all, be all of everything. They are not. They answer to their superiors, just like you do on your job. Sorry about the rant. I feel better now......

How does an idiot lift the wrong lift!

I have never seen anyone do this before. Would bet it would be my last time ever at that dealer.

Ok here is the final verdict . I picked up the car today late they were polishing it when i got there. well i waited till 6 pm which is an hour later than they close. well the car looked good there but i took it home and have found a few spots with overspray. plus the bonus now there is a chip on the roof of the car that wasnt there when i put the car in the shop. so tommorow i am planning to go to the district managers office and show him the car and see what he has to say.
