My Experience with Doug and his Bamachips race, tune & torque tunes!
HI there
Well first of all Doug is a great chap, always replies to my emails promptly and very willing to help which is really good customer service.
Well I've tried all of his tunes now, well I think all of them - Race, Torque and Performance. All designed for Octane 93 fuel!
Torque - Definetely the best tune in the 1500-3500rpm range but the push you back in your seat feel seems to die off around 4500rpm, though it still pulls well to redline.
Performance - Very similar to the torque tune, a little less pick up between 1500-3000rpm. But if you nail it above 3000rpm it will pushes you back in your seat and pulls strong upto redline. A definite good all rounder.
Race - Doug describes this as having the timing slightly more advanced with the most aggressive acceleration curve. All I can say is I love it. Above 4000rpm the car is absolutely mental in fact its scary as it nails you hard back in your seat upto redline. What else is good though is pickup is really strong at lower revs, it don't push you back in your seat as much as the torque tune but seems to pull harder and rev far quicker. I've also noticed that acceleration of the mark with this tune seems quicker and shifting at high rpms seem smoother and the car instantly accelerates when you shift up into next gear when racing.
Summary - All fantastic tunes, if you spend most of your times under 4000rpm then the torque tune is best. But if you love letting that engine scream then I recommend the performance or race tunes.
For those who wish to know my car is Saleen Mustang GT with Tunable Induction Cold Air Intake from Demolet, Saleen UDP's, Saleen 2.5" axle backs. Future mods are gonna be LT Headers, Off-road Pipe, CRMC Delete plates and more tunes!!
I am gonna find out from Doug if its safe to run my car all the time with the race tune as he does mention for race track only but he did right my tune for Octane 93 wheras the race tune normally uses higher octane fuel like upto Octane 100 etc.
Overall Doug is a top bloke and I hope Bamachips all the best. I paid Doug $100 for the Torque and Performance tunes which he sent to me straight away. I enquired about the race tune and he sent it me for free all properly calibrated for my car and wheels size.
Thanks Doug! :thumbsup
Gibbo

I second Gibbo's praise of Doug. He has been very patient in working with me as I have demanded lots of engine brake and low end torque. He has exceeded my expectations of what a Tuner would be willing to do and is quick to respond to my email.

Gibbo,
Did your try the SCT tunes that came with your Tunable Induction system before getting Doug's?
Hi there
Yep sure did and it improved the car greatly but all of Dougs tunes further improved throttle response and more push you back in your seat, so Dougs tunes are better.

I'm confused between some of the tunes. I could understand why you might want to drive under 4k rpm if you are road racing. But for drag racing, wouldn't you want the car to pull hard through the RPM curve? Not just below or above a certain RPM range?

Agreed! I think the race tune best suits that as Doug says it has the most aggressive acceleration curve. I am really enjoying the tune. All I can say is $650 has transformed my car into instant throttle response, great sound and real good push you back in your seat.

I would certainly welcome more engine braking. I have the SCT tunes that came with my TI CAI as well as 87 and 93 octane tunes from Modular Depot. None of these seems to address the issue of delayed response when releasing the throttle. Using equivalent octane tunes I can't tell one from another as far as driveability goes, other than the fact that the MD tunes do not allow me to adjust idle speed. I have lost track of how many times I have attempted to contact MD without success. It's irritating to have to buy a tune from someone else when I should have had the whole package correct from the beginning.
65sohc: MD didn't set up your X-Cal for User Adjustment to allow you to go in and change some settings, such as Idle Speed? I got mine from MD as well and it's been set up so I can go in and change numerous settings. I've changed the idle speed a few times till I got it the way I wanted it and just recently changed rear gearing and tire rev/per mile. Everything went perfectly.
I have Doug's torque and peformance tune but not his race tune.
I dont race but I do drive agressively on the sreet. I'm currently using the torque tune. Should I get his race tune as well?
Hey
I am sure if you mail Doug he will mail you the race tune for free considering you've already purchased the other tunes from him.
If you get it report back what you think.

I got the performance tune a couple days ago. The first thing I noticed, oddly enough, is that there is more intake roar during part throttle acceleration, presumably because the throttles and/or charge motion plates are opening quicker. It is significantly more responsive than the SCT and MD tunes that came with my TI CAI. The only issue I have is that the exhaust stinks. Even my wife pointed this out as we pulled into our garage. I never noticed this with the other tunes. I'm going to switch back temporarily to be sure it isn't my imagination. Has anyone else noticed this?

That's probably due to more fuel. I read somewhere that the 3 valve motors love to run rich. At least richer than 2 valve motors.
