Default Questions about tunes SCT

I just got my SCT X2 from mustang tuning and had the tuner make me two tunes, one tune was 87 octane and the other one was 93 octane. Installed the 93 tune and have been running 93 gas since the car was new, I have noticed that I have a LOT of spark nock. It starts right at 4000 rpms and continues the rest of the rmp range. I stopped driving right away. I took a guest, and had a feeling that it was to much advanced on the timing for that rpm range. (4000-8000) On SCT. I took the time down to 4 degrees retarded, spark went down by quit a lot, but still there, took it down to 7 degrees, and the spark nock is no longer there, But I have lost power, I can tell. So what should I do, are some tuners better than others? When I say this I mean the person making the tunes. The onley thing I have down to my car is put the K&N air changer on it with the factory MAF Reader.

If you guys could help me that would be great

You can use the SCT Xtreme tune software to compensate fuel delivery.
Increase the timing again, but also increase fuel delivery at part and full throttle.
Test until detonation is gone.

I always thought the higher the octane, the less of a change for knock?

If available, you should go to a tuner with a dyno. If you don't have one accessible, you may want to consider Doug from Bamachips or Brent from Brenspeed for a canned tune. They both provide awesome tunes!!

Hi there

Yes tunes differ greatly!

I was using an SCT/Demolet Octane 93 tune for my car which improved throttle response and gave some extra power which was good.

But then I tried Dougs Race, Torque and Performance tunes and all of them were better were better than the SCT tune. Though for me the Race tune is the best it has fantastic pickup from very low revs with no flat spots at all.

Doug is a great chap and will write a tune that is custom to your car as he will want to know your engine stragetic code, wheel size and mods etc. so your car runs its best plus he is conservative and as such all of Dougs tunes run slightly rich for safety reasons.
