Default Gear Size for next mod

My next mod is going to be gears for the rear end. I've seen many different sizes offered. What would be the best size for a car moslty used just for crusin??

If you're just looking for a nice little extra kick in the pants, then 3.55's would be good. If you want something more serious then 3.73's or 3.90's are the best there. Once you get into 4.10's and 4.30's, those are very aggressive gears for guys who really want to go street stomping.

Thanks for the input. I knew that I could depend on the knowledge of someone from the site. You've made my decesion for me. Im going with the 3.55's. Any idea on how long an experienced racing shop will take to install the gears.

You already have 3.55's. They came stock on 05/06 manual trannys. Automatics come with 3.31. Might I suggest 3.73 if you are into hiway driving or 4.10 if you are mostly a city street driver and really wnat som get up and go?

It could be done in two hours if one had a lift. It takes me about 4 hours without a lift and that includes removing the diff. from the car. I have done it a "few" times.

The rule of "thumb", as I was told by others on this site when I was looking for the same advice was to go up by 2 ranges. Therefore, if you have 3.55's (manual), jump to 4.10's...I've heard the 3.90's are not available?? For those who have the 3.31's (auto-like me) jump to the 3.73's, which I did and have no complaints.

Ditto on the FRPP's, I've heard nothing but good things about them and if they're installed properly (mine were done by Performance Ford) then you can count on them being done right. :thumbup

I run Motive 4.10s. Maybe a little much for the street, but off the line they sure are fun.

Some say the motive gears whine more than ford performance gears. Just had 4.10's installed yesterday paid $375 for install $200 for gears from summit. Good luck and enjoy
