I have a question. A buddy of mine has essentially a stock '05 GT coupe and he wants to use a tuner. Another buddy of mine has a simlar car except he has a SCT XCal2 tuner tuned for the three fuel levels here in California (I think he is using the 87 octane tune). Can the tuner be use for both cars? I am not sure exactly how the tuner works (even though I have one). When you plug it into your car, it saves the stock setting, then you load your desired tune. What happens if you do that to one car, then use the same tuner to tune another car, which is essentially the same set up? Does the first saved stock setting get wiped out? what if one of the car is set to 87 octane then the other is set to 91?
no only ONE CAR AT A TIME IF THEY WANT TO USE THE TURN ON
A DIFF CAR YOU MUST PUT THE FIRST CAR BACK TO STOCK..
THE PROGRAM SAVE THE CAR INFO ON THE (HARD DRIVE) ECT.
SO YOU CAN ONLY USE IN ON ONE CAR AT A TIME

Exactly correct. The same applies to the Diablo Sports Tuner also.

I haven't tried it but you may be able to download the stock tune to a computer clearing the tuner for use on another car. I'm too chicken to try - I bought separate tuners for each car

The tuner will not place a second tune on a vehicle unless the previous tune is removed. When the old tune is removed the stock tune is sent back to the stangs computer and the tuner is reset to its factory settings. Hope this isnt too confusing.

You can't download the stock tune from the device (on the xcal2). As the others have said, to use on another car, you've got to return to stock, clear the device, and then you can upload new .xtr or .ll3 files for the other vehicle.
If you buy a Pro Racer package you can purchase another "seat" so to speak. Then you may do it with one tuner.
A dealer was explaining how the Ford performance package comes with a tuner. From reading the posts from here I know that consumer tuners are one car at a time deals. But that raised a question in my mind. From reading posts, I learned that taking a tuned car to the dealer was risky because they could over wright your tune. The advise being to post a warning to not flash or to return you car to stock before taking it to a dealer for work.
Seems like the dealer is set up to flash any car that comes in with updates. If they have to exchange the PCM or install updated code. They just hook up and flash it. This leads me to think that the limitation must be in the tuners and not in the car. I asked because I was thinking that a dealer would have a system that didn't care how many cars it flashed so why would a dealer installed performance package need the tuner when just loading the file in the dealers "super tuner" and flashing the car should be all that was needed.
So what is the story.... what is the dealer able to do and not do when it comes to changing the flash in any car which enters their service bays?
