Default Need help with headers

Any suggestions on which type headers i should use on my 2005 GT . I currently have done the Steeda CAI , underdrives and the SCT tune and the car has been dynoed...I am looking for the most bang for my $$$...Are headers worth the money compared to HP gains ? Any idea what kind of HP I will gain if i install headers .I was thinking about going with Ford racing headers , but just not sure . Looking to get as much HP w/o supercharging the car .

The FRPPs are shorties as far as I know... Not much power in those, ~5 HP.

What you want is longtubes. The Kooks (that I have) and JBAs are the most popular brands and give close to 30 HP. That's allot of bang for the buck.

Donnot spend money on coatings.

The cathalythic converters on the catted Kooks system will be about half an inch lower than anything else under your car. I hit mine once on a curb and later switched to the off-road X... more power not so legal... The JBA cats are in a better location but there seem to be a bit less power from the JBA systems, compaired to the Kooks... (Kooks have an X-pipe = more power high, higher peak HP, JBA uses an H (like the stock system) and have more low end torque and a bit deeper tone, more American muscle less NASCAR than the Kooks system...)

No tune needed unless you go with an off-road crossover and then you'll need to turn off your aft oxy sensors...

The install is a biaaat..... takes 4-5 hours on a lift...

I think MD is still running a special on the Kooks... http://www.modulardepot.com/product_...roducts_id=229

Why do you say to skip the coatings?

I went with the Kooks as well and love them, full system with cats, matched with some Borla they really sound great. My tuner (Evolution) instructed me though that I should not even turn the car on without the tune for the rear 02 is moved further away from the engine. which is the case especially with the extension you need on the passenged side rear 02.

The coatings have not proven to give any power on our cars... there is so much room to keep things cool/hot without them.

The 4.6 is a high revving hot running motor and the exhaust and the headers keep hot enough to move the gasses.

The coatings will wear off and look bad, it is better to go with a high quailty steel instead. Kooks use the highest quality stainless steel of all the manufacturers.

I had no tuning issues with my headers. We did not turn off the rear sensors when I put on the OR X and I got the CEL after maybe 300 miles...

Well.... haha... I say go WITH the COATING !!! because it looks so darn good...

I have the Kooks and catted X-pipe. I got them Jet Hot coated and they are darn nice to look at and if you plan to show your car...they look better than a plain ol' T304 set...

They are warrantied by Jet Hot as well, Three year warranty that says if I am dissatisfied they will recoat them free. Cost me $275 for the inside outside high luster sterling silver coating.... What more can I say... They will look better than the other guys.

I like my JBA Titanium Coating... 10K miles... abosolutly no loss in finish except for some road grime. Cleaned off... but smoked a little the next start up from the cleaner residue.

SLP aluminum ceramic LTs here. Fit and finish are great except I too had CAT clearance issues. CATs didn't make it to 6 months before they disintegrated (may they rest in peace). Shorty headers are not worth the $$. The stock cast iron manifolds actually flow pretty well. In fact they're designed better than even the Shelby stockers.

So here's another question for everyone.. I'm sure I know what the answer is going to be. I love that old school sound of my SLP Loudmouths, but if I was to get LT's and an offroad X/H pipe, would the noise level be unbearable? Once again, I love that aggressive sound!

Short answer, yes. And you'll get plenty of dirty looks too. Plus it completely changes the sound. Much more 'gurgly' than with the stock manifolds/H. If you're going to stay with a straight through muffler, you may want to look at the SLP Powerflo, FRPP, Magnapack, Pypes etc.
