Do you have a Turbo, or will in the future? That's a lot of work for just sound... IMO...

yes +1 i found another good thread to help me out when i instal mine. i will be installing bbk shorties. i may do it myself aswell.
A few things I tripped over:
You have to remove the steering column. Don't even bother to see if you can get away with not doing it.
Make sure your floor jack extends far enough to lift the engine when your car is already lifted on ramps/jack stands. (Mine wasn't, I spent about an hour or so trying to figure out what I was going to do. I ended up finding some large patio blocks and building up a platform for my floor jack)
The instructions for the JBA headers said it was ok to reuse the stock studs. I ended up installing the driver's side header twice because most of the stock studs hit the header pipes and couldn't be used. I ended up removing all the stock studs and using the bolts JBA supplied.
I needed to unbolt the rack to re-install the steering column. NOTE: The nuts on the bottom of the K-Member holding the rack down (on an '07 anyway) are WELDED TO THE K-MEMBER! You must un-screw the bolt from above the k-member. (Yes I am a blockhead)
Think about wearing gloves with cut off finger tips. The backs of both my hand had numerous little cuts in them when I was done with this job. I hate wearing glove when I work but I'd advise it for this job.
Also wear eye protection. A 100 year ago when all they had out there were those fog prone goggles I wouldn't wear them. Now that you can pick up clear safety glasses that look pretty much like sun glasses you should wear them. I've gotten into the habit of doing it.
yes thanks for your input lou im making a note of this. did u have to unbolt the rack to take it out in the first place? how much of a PIA is removing the steering shaft or unbolting the rack? did you have any problems with steering after removing and uninstalling?
... did u have to unbolt the rack to take it out in the first place? ...
I didn't have to. There is a single bolt that holds one end of the shaft to the rack and another bolt that hold the other end to a square shaft that goes through the firewall. With the wheels pointed straight ahead (as they would be if you used ramps like I did) the bolt to undo the top (closest to the firewall) clamp faces towards the engine. It was easy to get to with a wrench after I had removed the exhaust manifold. Once this bolt is removed the shaft that comes through the firewall can slide back into the car, giving you the room to slide the "collar" off the shaft. The catch was after I had installed the driver's side header I could not get to this top bolt with a wrench anymore because the header was in the way. Being on ramps I also couldn't turn the shaft so this bolt faced up and then I could have gotten to it with a socket and an extension. If I had been on jack stands I could have simple turned the front wheels until this bolt face up. (Like they explain in the BBK install: Ford Mustang Removing Headers Photo)

The steering shaft came out easy. I got stuck trying to re-install it. My headache was not thinking ahead. The rack was actually very easy to undue. There are only two bolts that hold it in place. What I did was remove a single bolt on the driver's side and moved the rack forward maybe an inch. This gave me the room I needed to slide the lower collar of the steering shaft over the square nub on the rack. I then just slide the rack back the inch and re-installed the bolt.
No problems with the steering after the header install. It feels just like it did originally.
I did mine and what took so long was tightening the bolts in hard to reach spots one thread at a time. I enjoyed laying on my back for hours, then again I like working on my stang. Smarter next time not harder

i know this is an old thread but i have a ? to ask....is there any set of Long tube headers out there that you dont have to pull the motor to install
You don't have to pull the motor to install any of them. You need to jack it up a bit, but that's more to get the motor mounts out of the way. This mod won't be happening unless you remove those.
