Default Emergency brake stuck on

I left work last Friday and the emergency brakes would not release. The brake lever was functioning ok but the brakes would remain on. It was really cold, maybe they froze on? Anyone else with this problem?

Yes it's frozen... Check the TSBs up above. The rubber boot on the cable deteriorates and water vapor gets in and freezes. I just had mine replaced two weeks ago.

After reading the TSB, I'm not so sure that it will solve the problem...it seems that the same parts are being re-used...so it looks like it could happen again in the future...maybe I mis-read it...

No... My entire emergency brake cable was replaced front to back. The new one has a different silicone rubber compound in the boot that is supposed to better resist deterioration. Guess we'll see

I put my own coating on the wifes Volvo (freaking Swedes should know cold weather... sigh) Works fine! Volvo wanted $575 for parts an labor to exchange the whole wire... sigh again... edit; the PCV piece I pout on there was $1.75, then maybe 5c of lube and 15 minutes of my own labor... a third sigh...

That's not going to keep the water out. I'd take it in and get it replaced under warranty.

I think that this should really be an item replaced for free regardless of mileage. Obviously it is a design flaw that does not show up for a while. Mine did it a week ago. I had to disco the cables, drive to the dealer to find out it is going to cost me $120.00+ for the two cables plus my time to install. Kinda sucks if you ask me...

Agree... This should be a safety recall not a TSB.

Yeah, sometimes warranties do come through! And when they do, you feel like you got your money's worth
