I was recently driving to work and a rock chipped my windshield. It left a quarter sized "starburst" on the passenger side. Although it is not in my view I hate to look over and see it there all the time. I had Safelite come out to drill and fill the crack so it will not spread. The car will definitely pass inspection. My question is about getting the windshield replaced. I have a $100 deductible so that's all it would cost me to get it done. But, I fear that once the factory "seal" is broken the new windshield just won't be the same. I dread getting it done and all of sudden start to hear hissing or whirring noises because the new seal isn't as good as factory stock. I can live with the windshield for now but I am looking for any stories or experiences with replacement windshields. Thought anyone???

I agree, a reputable shop will do it right. To put things in persepective, I had the windshield on my 66 replaced about 6 years ago and have had no problems at all. The seal has remained tight even though the frame itself isn't in the best of shape (and will get redone once I get the car sprayed) and I've had no problems. I would say that the chances of you having new glass put in on a brand new car (given the shop does it right) and having something go wrong would be pretty small.
Go for it!

I've had many a windshield replaced, no problems as long as it's a reputable place, git-r-done!
ditto, only non original part on my '94(well,the tires, but, you know)

If you get safelite to replace or a windshield dealer you won't have any problems. They use the same type of urethane sealant as the factory. That must have been a big rock to leave a quarter size starburst. Road construction?

Wow, that was a lot of quick responses. Thanks! And, everyone seems to have the same outlook about it which makes me feel better about pulling the trigger. I do like the idea of waiting until Spring or warmer weather. I have heard some bad stories about windshield replacement in the winter.
I have no idea what hit my window. It sounded like a pretty good sized rock. I was on the highway doing about 80 so I'm not sure the rock had to be all that large. It left a perfect "starburst" on the windshield though. The drilling and filling was free through my insurance company so I was lucky.

Glad we could all help you with your problem! Now if it all goes horribly wrong from here and somehow your car gets totalled in the process of getting new glass...
I was never here.

I went through Safelite and it was $435 (+/-). It's that silly pony logo that makes it so expensive (since they have to get OEM windshields).
It's a lot less expensive now. Apparently, they're making their own windshields. Mine has a crack and I priced them just this past week. Without the horsie, it's like $315, and with it's $325. But why would anyone want to get one without the logo?
I had my windshield replaced this past summer, by Safelite with OEM glass (Running Pony Logo), because of a rock chip. The seal and install has been nothing but perfect so far. No leaks or rattles or any other issues whatsoever. It also comes with a lifetime warranty. Best part, cost me a mere $50.
I would contact the installer, should be warrantied and something they can/should fix.
