Default Why do some Mustangs have wheel hop and some don't?

I have read many posts where people are having trouble with wheel hop. I have never had any trouble, but I still have the stock P's. Does this have to do with changing tires and different types of tires.

Mine was really bad until I swapped the lower control arms and 3rd link. I haven't had a problem since.

Dunno... But I wouldn't characterize any stock mustang LCA as 'good' The bushings are really squishy and the piece is just a piece of stamped steel.

I have had cars with wheel hop, they were leaf springs and traction bars stopped that. But I have never had to deal with a car with coil springs. Some infow whould be greatly appreciated.

it has to do with ride height, and the geometry of weight transfer though the flywheel ,and drive shaft to the rear axles.
soft bushings in the rear control arms help prevent Axel bind.

The real cause of wheelhop in the S197 is the hydra-mount bushing in the UCA.
People who replace the UCA first always talk about the elimination of wheelhop.
People who replace the LCA's first always talk about the reduction in wheelhop.

If you really want to see if the car has wheelhop find a safe spot when it's raining and from about 10mph hammer the throttle hard enough to drive through the TCS or just turn it off. You'll see the dashboard almost fly out at you.

I'll agree with that. I did the LCAs first and there was substantial improvement. Did the UCA a couple of months later and the problem was gone completely.

The parts are very affordable; www.powerhouse411.com and can be put in by a hobby mechanic... I did mine on a lift and had some help with the pinion angle as I'm clueless there... The CHE/PH parts are snugg and a rubber hammer is a must... as always working on cars...

Boy am I glad I bought a Mustang without TCS, ABS or any other newfangled thing that would take the real feel of my care away from me. (I am 55, learned to drive in 68 in a 65 Mustang 289 auto)
I just love the old fashioned real wheel drive, push it through the corner with the pedal not the wheel, feel of my almost bare bones Mustang V6..

I hear ya... kinda hard to get that turn going without the wheel though... it would push through faster with a V8...

For the record I like my TCS and ABS... my TCS is on the fritz now though... one adapts quick... none of my cars back in the days had that...

Can't say why exactly, but I can confirm your observations that some do it and some don't...

My Vert was always rock solid off the line even for the few minutes it was not modded... The wheels would spin so smoothly and quietly, sometimes you could only tell by the speedo and the road not making any sense...

The coupe hopped/shook soo badly it was painful...

Differences:
1. Coupe vs Vert - different springs (softer on the Vert from the factor)
2. Coupe vs Vert - weight distribituion
3. 18's on the vert vs 17's on the coupe...

The good news is that UCA fixes it. I suspect that cars that don't have it now will have it as they age and the rubber starts to break down...

Default I am going to make a few guesses here

are the control arms the rods or I-beam type device that goes from the rear end and attaches to the car body or the frame. and is this some kind of triangule piece that attaches at 2 places on the rear end and at one place on the body or frame, hence upper and lower control arm, or are we talking about 2 totally different units...........hey, I think I'll just search it on the net since I'm already here.......lol
