Hello, I have a 2008 v6 mustang with the ford racing power upgrade. It has dual cat backs, a CAI, and has been tuned to 89 octane. I am looking for acceleration more than top speed with my car. I plan on tuning it to 93 octane shortly, but my main question is will you see a noticeable difference in 4.10 gears over the stock 3.31s. A friend at work is trying to sell me on them. While he doesn't have a mustang he said it made a difference in his jeep. he did say that he has a v8 though and the had the motor rebuilt at the same time he swapped gears. So would i tell a difference and is it worth it>?
It doesn't matter what car or engine..... you will notice a huge change in the ability of the car to firmly plant your butt in the seat. I went from 2.79's in my 79 capri, to 3.55's and it felt like I added 100 hp to the engine, and all I did was swap rear ends. 3.31 to 4.10's is almost exactly the same difference (numbericaly) and you should notice the same change in the ability of your car to accelerate.
I am putting the 4.10's in my 07 V6 this spring, and according to everyone that I have heard from on this site, it is going to make my car feel like a whole nother animal. Plus, I am finally going to get my CAI tuned, so that should help out a ton, too.
Needless to say, I cant wait for spring...

Oh, and another important thing to consider. Coupled with the 4.10's, you will probably want to get a t-lok differential. That way you are putting down all your power to the two wheels, rather than just the right rear. It will be super hard to get traction with the 4.10's if all your power is going to one tire...
Just a recommendation...

3.73 or 4.10 will make a big difference. i have the 8.8 with t- lock and 3.73. from 0-120mph, it's awsome. with 3.31 gears, 3rd gear ended at 95 for me. and i have no clue what 4th gear topped out at, but now with the 3.73 gears 3rd ends at 85, and 4th ends at 120. it made a big difference. also off the line this thing actually has a hole-shot now. but you need to consider future mods. if you stick with the 7.5 you need to figure out just how much hp you want. plus building it. that is why i chose the 8.8 from newtakeoff.com, for about $1,000 it comes complete, ready to install. and it's rated for alot more power than the 7.5, and the 7.5 with t-lock and master bearing kit and all will run you about $750 or so with the labor and all. why not spend a little extra and make sure you stay safe. not too mention, the drive shaft is only rated at 115mph, so you might want to change that out aswell. let me know if you would like to know more.
the CAI and tune adds 12 hp which is really conservative i think. The dual exhaust probably adds another 4 or 5 at most so i would say roughly about 15 horsepower. It makes a big difference.
I would figure that the Dual exhaust would add more than just 4-5hp. Dual exhaust adds more than 4-5hp to the 3.8L and the 4.0L is more responsive to bolt-ons than the 3.8L
it very well may add more. I recently saw a stat that said it only added 2 hp but i find that very hard to believe. Regardless, i would say you could safely estimate 15 hp. i could tell a difference. I am not a consisten driver but my 0 to 60 time picked up by almost a second. of course part of that was me getting more comfortable with my car but everyone who drives my car who drove it before said they can tell an acceleration difference. i would reccomend it
to give you an idea what the gears can most definitely do for you: whenever i went down to the track this past sunday there was a guy there in an S197 GT that was stock exhaust (we're guessing intake, gears, and tune) that was running CONSISTANT (5-speed car as well) 13.1-13.2's. with stock being in the 13.80-area...that's a very nice increase. and if the car is infact geared, he only went to something along the lines of a 3:73. the 4:10 is an EXTREMELY good ratio for the S197, i say do it and enjoy the new found white smoke!
Alright. Thats whay i been wanting to hear. The only other question is do you think the 7.5 rear end would hold up with a supercahrger or should i wait and get the 8.8.?
