Default New gears in 2008 V6 do I need 8.8" rear if I supercharge?

I am new to the postings and haven't had the chance to load pics and etc. I am a new 2008 V6 coupe owner and have big plans. Right now all stock. I want to do 3.73:1 gears and a trac-lok. In the end I plan on adding an X-charger. If that is my end goal should I go with a GT rear (8.8") or can the stock 7.5" support this kind of work load and can 3.73 gears and a trac-lok work just as well in a 7.5" rear when supercharged? Any help would be great, I want to have my ducks in a row before I start throwing out all sorts of coin. I have been working hard and saving long and now its time to get down to business.

If you have a manual i would recommend it, it has been said that the 7.5 can support the power but others have had it break within the first week.

with my auto im unable to launch and im putting out much more power then a s/c and my stock rear is doing just fine, if you plan on launching or running it at the track, just install the s/c and hold off on that till track season comes around again

if you are going to go after more than 300 lbs of torque you should get the 8.8 . and don't forget the driveshaft. it is only rated at 115 mph. and just to be safe a safety loop should be in there aswell. you can pick up an 8.8 with the gears you want from newtakeoff.com for about a grand. it comes ready to install. and you should be able to find an aluminum driveshaft for about $500 from che-performance and it only weighs 14lbs. a great performance upgrade.

i have the same plan blackice. ive also decided on the 3.73 and trac lock and still cant decide on the 8.8 to me it just seems upgrading to the 8.8 will pay off in the long run, b/c youll only be payin 3-400 more for a bigger stronger rear axle that already has the 3.73 and trac lock installed. do make sure that if you order from newtakeoff.com that you get the one with a cobra flange. its the only one that fits the v6. CHE, powerhouse and a few other companies also have the alu. ds so you have a range of choices from there. i would still like to hear from other owners who have done this same set up or close to same to their car, and even from ppl went gears and trac lock in their 7.5 That x charger is starting to come over my horizon, i just gotta get rich quick and wait for that intercooler option!

If there is even an outside chance of putting in a s/c, I would probably go with the 8.8. +1 to burningrubber, it won't cost much more to buy the 8.8 and have it installed than to buy the gears and differential and have it installed. I talked to some shops around town and just the install for the gears and differential was $400-500. Install for the rear end was half that...

The stock rear end may be able to handle the s/c, but it's better to be safe than sorry...

The 7.5 is pretty durable but the 8.8 is a nice insurance policy and doesn't cost a whole lot more.

like i said, as long as your not launching it, you'll be fine, im at 400+ torque on the stock rear

yea its all about what your goin for. You want the extra insurance... go with the 8.8. If you do not do a lot of launching, like xchris says, the 7.5 will probably do just fine. I personally am going to go with the 8.8 not for the durability, but so I do not have to worry about a bad gear install.

The axles will snap before the differential will fail..

I'm running a HiPo X-Charger with the 2.8 pulley.

I went with the 8.8 rear and 3.73 pretty much for the reasons as stated by the others.

Shaftmasters aluminum drive shaft too.
