Default Ultra light driveshaft question?

alright this question partains to rear ends. I have a 2008 v6 and i would like to put the aluminum ultra light driveshaft on my car. i am reluctant to do so because this summer if i can save up enough money i want to put a whole new rear end in my car and don't want to waste money. Will the ultralight aluminum driveshaft on the rpmoutlet site work with the 8.8 rear end or can you get an adapter plate for it or should i wait and get the rear end first? Thanks in advance

do you have to buy an adapter plate or something to convert the connection from 7.5 to 8.8?

i can't remember for sure but i believe a pinion flange for the 8.8" will be needed and that will just replace your current and you should be able to slip it right into the 8.8 housing

have you looked into the newtakeoff.com for an 8.8 with the t-lock and gears of your choice? also, you might want to check out che-performance for the drive shaft. it only wieghs 14lbs. i believe that's 2 pounds lighter than what rpm outlet has. i got my rear end from newtakeoff.com for about a grand with t-lock and 3.73 gears.you can tell them that it is for a v6 and they will include the correct flange for the application. and i believe i spent about 500 for the drive shaft. well, it's just a thought for ya, i know i couldn't belive the difference it made. if you have any questions just let me know.

Not if you buy the 8.8 without the V6 flange and also buy a GT driveshaft.

Thanks. I am leaning towards 4.10s i figure if i am going to do it i need to do it big the first time. I like the completeness of the set ups on newtakeoff. oh and i meant if you get the v6 shaft and then switch rear ends.
By the way how much should i expect to pay to have the rear end replaced with the one from newtakeoff?

Wow $1500 for a Driveshaft and a 8.8 rearend?!?! Maybe it's just me but I think a lot of mods are way over priced for the performance gain given by them.

I have a smiliar question. I don't want to change my rear end, I just want to swap out the driveshaft for an aluminum driveshaft. What should I know before I start?

True, but gears and especially limited slip are essential if you want to have a useful accelerating machine. You could always install taller gears and a limited slip differential in your 7.5" rear end for around $750. Most people who do the 8.8" swap do it because they plan on adding some form of power adder (f/i or n20) in the future and don't want to risk breaking the 7.5". The 7.5" has proven to be plenty strong for applications 300rwhp and over but the 8.8" will always be able to handle more.

And don't even get me started on the garbage they install on these cars that they call a driveshaft. The ****** jumps ship at 115.

you have a v6, why would you buy a gt driveshaft, you don't have a gt. not to mention, newtakeoff 8.8 they send it to you ready to install. it has a cobra flange on it that will bolt right up to the driveshaft. they sell it as a v6 "upgrade" so again i ask, why would you buy a driveshaft for a gt?

you would buy a gt ds is you bought a takeoff 8.8 w/o the cobra(v6)flange. otherwise a v6 ds would fit an 8.8 take off with the right flange for a v6.

Not sure if everyone realizes that the CHE driveshaft is the same as the Powerhouse. They're actually right down the street from each other.
