Default 2006 Mustang Automatic Transmission Issues

I'm having some issues with my automatic tranny in my 06 Mustang and was curious if anyone else here has had these problems -- local tranny shop cannot find anything wrong, they've taken it for test drives and the computer is not showing any codes or pending codes of any failures.

It seems like my transmission is having issues upshifting, whether i am manually doing the shifting or if its in drive and its shifting itself. When it shifts up, and for some reason it does it a lot more around corners then going straight ahead, it'll hiccup for a second or two, sometimes will stutter i guess you can say, as if its waiting to grab the gears and its getting beyond ridiculous!

If you are in drive doing say 50 and you let off to decelearte heading to a red light, it turns green so you step back on the gas it'll stutter/hiccup really bad, bad enough you can feel the vibrations big time! The only guess my local mechanic can guess is that it's not the transmission but something along the lines of the driveshaft or into the rearend? But it feels like its the transmission -- computer shows no signs of trouble and the shop couldnt get it to do it after really romping on her.

Anyone else here have these issues? I hope someone else has!

most often if its low on fluid, it causes shifting problem

That's exactly what I thought but it's not the case this time -- I had it replaced and refilled just two weeks ago. So it's gotta be something else and what that is, I cannot figure out for the life of me.

You would think the computer would have coded it by now, or at the very least, have a pending code for the problem but nothing, computer says there are no issues ?????

it could be in the computer. the tune also controls the trans. if you have warenty and its all sock, you might ask them to reflash the comp at the dealer.

What would reflashing the computer do to the transmission? Do you think I should talk to my transmission guy I use and see if he'll do that or take it to Ford?

Because this is an auto transmission, the computer controls when the transmission shifts. If it is not shifting like it is supposed to, a logical problem would be the controller (ie computer). Reflashing the computer will essentially reset everything to 0. Sort of like when you reformat your computer. Actually I think that is exactly what it is.

That makes total sense! Can only the dealership do it or can any local transmission shop do it? Id much rather pay my guy then the dealership if possible

you will either have to go to a ford dealer for a stock re-flash, or buy a tuner and some custom tunes. either option will rule out the computer. the computer controls when it shifts and how it shifts. there is alot to it. for the auto, a custom tune does your motor and the trans tune along with it.

Since you just had the tranny flushed---make sure they used the correct tranny fluid---the wrong fluid will make the tranny shift wierd. Also did they over fill or under fill--both are bad.

Well seeing that the problem was before they flushed the fluid, then it might not be the issues. Although I guess it is possible that the level was low and then when they flushed it, it was done wrong. Bad luck I guess.

They replaced the fluid correctly and it was not over-filled, I watched em do the tranny fluid and the shop that did it has done all of the tranny work on my muscle cars and never an issue, yet

I'll try disconnecting the battery and seeing if that helps anything.

So if i got a custom tuner, that will rule the computer out and that might solve these issues?

Sorry if im not totally grasping all of this --- im use to working on older muscle cars where these dam computers are not an issue!

ya, a custom tune takes out the learning process, and would retune the motor and the trans. only drawback i`m thinking about now is that when you plug the tuner in for the first time, it saves your stock tune. if its messed up, thats how it will get saved. but once you run a custom tune, you wont want to go back to stock ever unless you have warenty still. call ford and see how much to re flash it first. tuner alone is about 375.00.
