Thanks to my bro-in-law and the focus forums that he cruises around, I've run across a great cheap mod. It's mostly for stangs that have no tune (at least I don't know if it would make a difference on a tuned stang).
The mod basically just improves throttle response by giving the throttle plate motor a better ground.
Parts needed are just 2-1/2' - 3' 8 gauge wire (preferably fine strand[speaker wire]), 2 fish eye connectors, sautering wire, and 8mm wrench or socket w/ ratchet.
Sauter the fish eye connectors to either end of the wire (for a better connection), connect one end of the wire to the negative battery post and the other to the steel plate covering over the throttle plate motor.
Boom...much better response comes your way.
I didn't want to post this until I knew that it actually worked, and trust me, it works. My car's engine is much more easier to control now. Almost feels like there is actually a wire connecting my gas pedal to the throttle.

hmmm...y not with a tune? sounds extemely easy. is it completely different from stock or what? my race tune can be jumpy, but it seems selective. mostly on cold mornings, other than that its mild but better than stock. its my DD tune too

so what we are saying is,,,the throttle body needs a better ground. i dont see what diff a custom tune would make with the ground situation, even if it does make it more responsive with fuel/air settings. maybe a better ground would make it even better.

I'm not sure I see the logic behind adding an extra ground wire to the throttle body. Do you have any cold-hard-proof that the exterior of the throttle body is supposed to be grounded at all or have you just done this willy-nilly hoping it would help because the Ford Focus guys do it to their cars?

The reason why it might not make a difference on a tuned car is that a tune usually increases throttle response, so I'm not sure if it even would make a difference.
I did this mod because it was extremely cheap and if it didn't make any noticeable difference, it was easy to take off. The Focus guys that do it are the ones that have the fly by wire throttle just like the new mustangs.
I say just try it and if it doesn't work, you're out what, $5-10?

ya, the tune does make it way more responsive. you said it made a diff in your car though, so thats interesting. wouldnt cost $2 to try it i guess. i dont know anything about the fly by wire throttle setups.

somebody with a tune do it! and tell me if its worth it or not. haha that would be so awesome if it did! the onlt other throttle adjustment that iv heard of is bending the sensor inside your gas pedal electronics. it take a set of really small jewelers pliers. its easy to totally screw up tho, and id be worried mythrottle would stick!

that doesnt sound like a good idea bending stuff, to me maybe i`ll try the ground wire this weekend

I've heard of adjusting the gas pedal in order to get better throttle response but adding a ground to the actual motor is a new idea to me. I'm still not sure I see how this would help as its such a small motor in the first place.
The gas pedal is attached to a potentiometer, much like a wah pedal (for those of you into guitar stuff). Some guys have had luck adjusting the potentiometer so that there is less play resulting in better throttle response. I can't see it hurting anything if done correctly but if screwed up you'd probably need a new pedal assembly.

I installed the ground wire last night. No tune on my Stang and the ground wire did help with the throttle response, but nothing dramatic. I like these cheap mods!
good idea Animal's 3rd its really nice for my auto 4.0 cuz my launches are a little faster an i can beat some pple off the line a little quicker thanks for the idea
