Angry 2005 Mustang Convertable: Water on passenger side.

I have a 2005 V6, Convertible.
We have had some violent thunderstorms here in Western Pa, the last few days. As a result I found my passenger side floor boards, front and back, flooder with about 2 inches of water. I suspect the water is coming in through somewhere under the glove compartment. Has any one else experienced this? Expecting more storms today. Will sit in car to determine exactly where it’s coming in.

Look under the TSB section in the GT Tech. This is a well documente issue.

Check under the hood along the fire wall. You will see two black rubber drains spaced a couple feet apart. Put your finger in them to see if they are clogged. If they are clogged unclog them.
If that is not it next check the grommets on the passenger side. There is one that leads into the fenderwell that would be ahead of and above where you feet go. The other is in the area where when you open the passenger door you will see where the wires enter the car. Make sure both grommets are in place.

If these do not fix your problem continue.

If you take off your cowls you will see 10 grommets/mounts. You can either buy the new updated ones that need a heat gun to install or you can buy T2 Ford sealant and seal over them. Also you will see a pinch weld running the length of the cowl area. You can fill in the pinch weld with the sealer.

Last but not least is what was wrong with my car. Under the fenders near where the door, cowl and a pillar meet there is a seam that runs from the apillar to the bottom of the car. If you pull off the drip rails you can see it. Mine was falling apart and was letting water into the car. It is a very time consuming fix as the fenders must come off. But I had this fixed and so far my car has not leaked since.

The above post is the TSB for water leaks.
I hope just your drains are clogged as that is a real easy fix. If your drains are fixed you can cut off about an inch of them which will make it easier fro large debris to flow through and not get stuck. If you pull off your cowls it would be a good time to change your cabin air filter.

Good Luck!!!

Very good post. Covered all the known issues in a very clear and compact manner.

That is very similar to one of the Mustang's issues. Water is coming through the cabin filter.

The water issue is the only thing that made me want to sell my car. It angered me to the point that Ford would not talk to me on the phone anymore and my dealer service manager would go and hide when I came in.
I hope yours is just that the drains are clogged. Thats what I think it is. Because when the drains are clogged and the water comes in from the cowl area that seems to be where ALOT of water pools up on the floor. My leak was more minor but alot harder to fix. I just cannot accept water leaking onto the Smart Junction box on the kick panel wall.

After I got mine fixed at the dealer the carpet was still wet from them water testing so at first I though they did not fix it. But I was wrong as I have been trying to make it leak and cannot.

Also if you have an extended warranty good luck trying to get it to fix the water leak. This whole mess has made me think about doing my own maintenance and getting a refund on the warranty. I mean if I buy a precertified car with 10000 miles and an extended warranty I think I should have a car that does not leak water onto electrical parts. I guess I was wrong $1000 later. And the worst part is after I saw the car apart I realized that I could of taken off the fenders and resealed it myself.

Sorry Im starting to rant. Touchy subject.

Good Luck!!!
And keep us updated what you fixed.

Well I survived two storms without incident. Hoping the severity of the storm lead to the leaking. I do have an extended warenty, 72 mo, or 72, 000 miles. I've had it 38 mo and have 18, 000 miles. I will take it to the dealer, in the mean time since you think I have a fight on my hands, I"m going to buy a cover for it.
