Question 2005 Mustang V6 - Dual exhaust using GT h-pipe?

Hello all,

Need your help before I sink a lot of money into this one. Like a ton of others in this forum, I want to install dual exhaust on my 2005 V6. I know I could do it with the Ford Racing kit, among a bunch of options.

But can I do it using a stock h-pipe from a 2007 GT and the GT mufflers? I know, it's not sexy...but would it work? If it will work, what else do I need to account for - beyond needing a hanger for the driver side, and the rear bumper cover?

I'm on a limited budget - thanks for your advice in advance.

Yes you can, what makes it not sexy, not a part you can see, plus it keeps your car factory

i used gt take offs and used the muffler shop x pipe and tubing.. the x pipe on the v6 is better for sound and performance. it helps in retaining the backpressre that the pcm needs to see. as far as my bumper cover. i cut it out. take a sheet of copy paper and tape it to the right side and use a piece of pencil or something to make a shadow templet of the body lines and outlet. flip the paper over and retrace the lines and cut out the hole for the outlet. retape the paper on the left side, matching up the body lines and trace the outlet and cut. take a look at my gallery. the cut is as close to perfect as you can get.

Would I use the GT hangers or the V6 hangers in this case? Wasn't sure if I needed to pick up a set along the way.

the muffler hangers are exactly the same on a V6 and a gt. the holes for the brackets are allready in your frame for the factory hangers. when i did mine, i didnt like the aftermarket hangers and bought 2 from the ford dealer that worked out much better.note: the V6 muffler does have a third hanger that you wont be using any more. the gt and aftermarket mufflers just use 2 hangers

i just let the muffler shop do their thing. they took one of the hangers from right side and made a hanger for the left side. i had them remake both pipes. it only cost me $250 with the x pipe.

Looks nice. My take-off hang a bit more out than yours do. It didn't plan it like that it just worked out that way.

One day I'll do the same, until then I'll keep with the single. Or perhaps just hang the left one on there for the look and do the piping when the cash comes.

I like it where it is now. Though I am pretty bored right now so maybe I'll try it just to see.
