I want to switch from auto to manual in my 2006 Pony Package. I see that New Takeoff has GT 5 speeds for cheap, but will a GT 5 speed work? I was just curious if there were differences in the 5 speeds they put in V6's and Gt's. Anyone who has done this and could answer would be greatly appreciated.

input shafts are different. The V6 has a T5 and the GT has a TR3650. It can be done and a few people have done it. Search some of the forums, there's a how to link somewhere. But most of the swaps are from an auto to a T5 which came in the V6.

here's a list of everything you'll need to get the gt transmission
it'll cost somewhere around 2k to switch to a gt transmission (if you do everything yourself or 1k for the v6 transmission stuff. there's a really good writeup article with step by step instructions if you're interested.
8.8 rear end
tr3650 manual transmission
slave cylinder with throw out bearing
pressure plate and clutch disc
rubber shift boot (protects your car from getting moisture in it down by the transmission
hydraulic hose for the clutch
leather shift boot (goes in the center console)
dual pedal assembly
shifter and shift ball
PCM
engine wiring harness (for a manual)
spacer plate
starter mount
GT driveshaft
I personally like my auto..I bought an Auto for a reason too.
Can you say perfect shifting at the track?
But I've been reading about TCI's Streetfighters and well I am intrigued.
"allows to be put in drive and left as an auto, or shifted manually"
1. Manually? all 4(5) gears? would OD become 5th?
2. So we are talking a "manumatic" I had a prelude like that, LOVED it.
but that's just my speculation.
If it did work out that way, I'd probably do it just to have the "manumatic" setup. Flip from auto to stick in the flick of the wrist..although I'm sure thats not what it does.
if Automatics were so much better, why do formula 1 drivers, nascar drivers, etc.. use manual transmissions???? yeah at the dragstrip they are better, but at the track, whole different story.
v6 5sp are cheap, why not just sell yours and buy a manual?
i disagree. i looked at 8 s197's when i was car shopping. one was a manual and it had 20k more miles and was priced 2k more? plus it was an '06 and mine was an '07. i sometimes wonder what life would've been like if i would've bought it thouh
i agree, for the strip the Auto has an advantage, but for just about anything else a 5sp has the upper hand. Engine braking, gear selection etc etc. Im going to leave the auto in my 07 alone because its going drag racing. But my camaro is going to be a drift car so it needs a stick. Good job on the write up and for following through with it though!
