Default shifting problems on my 06

Has anybody else out there had problems with their shifter on the 5-speed 06? For the most part, it's not bad, but sometimes it doesn't want to go into gear, usually 1st or 3rd, and I wind up having to grind gears a little to get it in. Needless to say, I don't like that. Perhaps the problems is that I'm just not extending my arm far enough, but there have been several times that I"ve thought the thing was in gear, only to rev the engine in neutral when I went to take off. Rather annoying, at best.
Would a short throw shifter be the answer to this problem? Seriously looking at one of those anyway. Thanks for any info on this!
Didn't notice till too late that I had stuck this in the older stang tech threads, sorry if that bothered anybody.

Had the same thing when I bought my car. I took it too the dealer and they said "nothing was wrong with it", however after that it started working properly.....

Anyway I still notice that the shifter is a bit stiff every now and then, especially when going into reverse. I assume you just have to use it a bit to break it in possibly...

Also, a short shifter is also a good idea, the stock shifter is a bit low and is quite close to the dash in first and third.

I know what you mean. I have had a problem or two getitng it into reverse. Our V6 shifter is long (throw) and loose (as a goose). My wife ordered a Hurst for it from RPMoutlet.com. She does hit the dash with her thumbnail in the V6 car but that is going away as soon as the UPS guy gets here.

I have the Hurst on my 06 GT and love it. My wife was constantly hitting the dash before the install.

Thanks for the response, guys. While it doesn't make me happy to have the problem, it's good to know it's not just me.
I"ve heard varying stories on those shifters, do you really like the Hurst? And is it really as easy to change as I was reading the other day? Thanks, Gypsy
