Default Whats a good intake system for the '06 4.0?

I have been looking around for a good intake system for my 4.0 '06. I want to get the best bang for the buck as well. I have looked on ebay and other ford performance sites and there are so many and the price varies greatly. I would love your feedback, thanks

Default AEM Brute force

I have the AEM brute force with the dry flow filter. I am very impressed with it. THe filter does not require any oil, very easy to clean. I would just recommend buying an additional Dry Flow filter, because it takes about 3 days for the thing to fully dry after cleaning. This way you could always have a dry one ready to go while you clean the other. The filter element is pretty big (I've never seen a filter this size. About 9 inches). But that's a good thing, plenty of flow. Very easy install. I had to use a few extra bolts since I don't have ABS or traction control. The instructions require you to use the bolts form one of those components (can't remember which one). No big deal. www.autoanything.com This Web site is always running special promotions (10% off etc........) If memory serves, it was around $200. Maybe a little more.

Maybe I'm old school but the first mod anyone would do on an old car were headers.I've taken this route and noticed a huge inmprovement and on the V-6 it was no more than 2 hour job.The fitment is excellent. I havn't even installed the GT take off dual H system yet cause I'm off to Wyoming to visit some family this weekend.

I can see adding a CAI in the near future. At this Denver,CO altitude the CAI would help more after I open up the exhaust first.Poco

The S&B cold air intake is the one I am buying this week. I have done a lot of searching and it seems to be the best bang for the buck. Unless you are really performance crazy and want to get a tuner (which costs on average about $600).

No offense, but the I read Doug dyno tuned this CAI with no gain over the stock airbox. I have been hoping to see another tuner dyno test it, Justin might have for another comparison.

I do know 2 guys that switched from this to a C&L or TI.

Please PLEASE get a tuner first or a CAI/Tuner combo! I like and recommend the Ti system mentioned in the 2nd post. C&Ls CAI is awesome too, at least for the GT... read somewhere the MMR 4.0 CAI is good too... But please tune! That's where the power, drivability and FUN is!!

Headers will not really do much unless you have 300-400 HP.. the ford headers are very good for OEM... not worth the money at first... unless you go with long tube...

Default Steeda_CAI

I had the Steeda CAI before I got a SuperCharger. I loved it. I had my car a a dyno before the SC. There was an additional 28rwhp from the CAI, headers and dueal exhaust. The cool thing is that I am going back to the Steeda CAI even with the SC. They look great together.

I'm just curious. After you added the headers and exhaust, did your check engine light come on? I want to upgrade mine, but am wondering if I will need to get Oxygen sensor simulators to keep that idiot light from going on.

On the GT you don't even have to tune with catted headers. With ORs you need to turn (tune) off the rear oxy sensors though....

Depends on if you're running long tubes or shorties. On catted LTs you just use O2 sensor extensions. If you run a race pipe instead of cats you would need a sim or turn off the rear sensors with the tuner. On a catted shorty setup there is no change to the sensors.
