Congrats on the new shifter. I love the retro look of the chrome stick and white ball knob.
One tip I have: if you want to keep the stock rear bushing (for less vibration) then don't completely undo the rear bushing strap, just loosen it and slide the stock shifter's tongue out. That makes pulling the stock shifter out easier.
I installed a Hurst too. I love it I agree I had to pry the stock unit out of the hole inside the car too.
It is by far worth doing! The only gripe I have with it is that when I get on it I heard a buzzing/rattle that is coming from under the dash/console. I know it's the Hurst cause it was not there before. I also know for sure I tightened ALL bolts and used lock tite as well. I'm wondering if you guys have had the same issue and what did you do about it. Ultimatly I am willing to live with it for the benefits
i installed my hurst the other day. got it for like 175 off of ebay from atlantic speed. i love it, but it makes the same buzzing sound you mentioned and it didnt do it before.

I finally got around to installing the Hurst Competition/Plus shifter in my ride. I don't understand why all the posts about haveing to pry it out. Mine took a "little" persuasion, but nothing like what I've read on here. Like everyone else, I am amazed at the difference between the stock and Hurst units. I'm so used to the stocker it will take a little getting used too the clean, crisp shifts of the Hurst. I also am getting the same "rattle" everyone else seems to be getting. I only get in in 2nd and 3rd gears under hard power though. Believe me, the benefits by far outway this little rattle. My next big purchase is a set of Enkei PKR 18" wheels in a machined black finish with Yokahama skins. Then I'll be swapping my rear end for a take off GT 8.8" rear end with 3.73 gears and trac loc. Someday, hopefully not too far off, NOS and Supercharger.

i also have done the hurst install. it was a little tricky getting out the old one. i had to file a little out of the tunnel to slip it out the top.
Note: the rattle that you are talking about i found out what it is. many do it and it is a defect. if you notice you can pull up on your knobs and the entire shaft with linkage slids up about a 1/4 inch less or more. i called hurst and they get all calls about this problem. its with the bearing in the center. its too big and the shaft slids out of it. causing a rattle at high rpms.
solution: call hurst immediately with receipt and part number ready. the number can be found in the instructions but a new number will be given as hurst has changed ownership from mr gasket to B&M in cali. they told me the new revised shifters are on back order. when they come in they will call and i have to send mine back first to get the new one.

Good find... You're going to be a hero to a bunch of folks!
I just bought one yesturday and put it in today and holy cow is that ever a short shift. I'm not a fan of the white ball however. I liked the stock look. Does any one know how to make that work or do I just need to get a new rod?
I was reading the directions and thought they said some thing about the trans link bar holder that the long part had to face the pass side? So I had it that way and it made the shifter face the wrong way so trying to tighten up the rod was hard. I took the whole mid console apart... after looking on the net more and more I found a place with pic's galore and found out I am a numb nut. Got back under the car and changed it up, after I had droped the car back down and takin the jack stands out... oh well its in now and right so its all good, and I'm glade I did it my self
Has anyone returned their rattle shifter to Hurst yet and got one of the new ones?
I called them today to get mine swapped out. They said the new ones are in and are rattle free.
I'm curious if anyone has done this yet and if the new ones are in fact rattle free. If not I'm going to go with a Steeda or something else. I'm kind of gun shy with Hurst now after they sold me this baby rattle.

As you know i called and found the whole thing out. i got a new one from them last week and didn't have to send them my old one first like they originaly said so that was cool. i havnt put in yet though so ill let you know how it works out.
How did you get them to send you the new one first? I kept my stock shifter but if I can keep from having to put it pack in until I get the new one, that would be great.
