Ok, So Hurst can keep their Shifter and that's a shame that every six owner doesn't get on Hurst's case. I hate it when a manufacturer puts out a sub par product and can't conplete decent R&D on it and we become the guinea pig. I am so disappointed and wish there was a way to let Hurst know and to stop them from selling this sub par shifter. What ever happened to reputation?? I for one are not interested in quick shifts. I just wanted a smoother shift than the factory, which I feel at times is a little sticky, particularly in first gear when cold.
So I have heard obout changing the tranny fluid to Sychromax Purple? Are their any views and info on that.

gimmie the skinnie. I want the shifter, I know I can put it in especially with all the ifo on here, but recently i read that its harder to shift. I am not deterred by this, but there are times when the wifey will need to drive it and I dont want to hear "its too hard to shift now" and be forced to switch it back. I am kind worried about beeing too short and not used to it and ripping the knob off on the way through the dash. Saw an older posting and how the price went up for the saleen shifter kit that relocates it much cheaper than Hurst. Is Hurst that much better. Have also read that the Hurst seems clunker too.. Relax you dont have to sell me I already want it in there yesterday. thanks for any input.

I had the Roush short throw and could not stand it, rattled like crazy, and Roush pretty much told me too bad!
I have a Hurst short throw now and it is notchy, and first can be a little tough. Is the pro 5.0 any better? Less notchy? I am thinking about putting the stock one back on.

It's still a little notchy but better than the Hurst.
I see this thread at the very top of the forum and don't recall ever having the time to ever look at it. So tonight, I got curious and looked through it real quicklike.
I'm surprised this many people even tried the hurst. When I first saw it over a year ago, I thought it looked like crap.
The guys at my local Performance shop said they've had to remove a few of them when they came back, so I went with the Tri-ax before anybody knew for sure it wouldn't work on the V6. So I had to settle for the Steeda sport. Works perfectly. The only trouble I usually have is getting into first after rolling to a stop. If I put in first while rolling to the stop and then stop, I can then take it out of gear and let the clutch out to rest my leg. It will go into first fine after that. If I don't do it this way, it's a hassle trying to get it in first. Doesn't want to engage at all.
That seems to be the only trouble I have with this shifter.
I just put a hurst in my V-6 I had no problems old shifter lifted right out up through the hole and dropped new hurst i the same way. I did take off th erear metal bracket while on the car real easy and didnt put it back on til hurst was in the car. I think it is better than stock but still does not shift as nice as the tremec in my street rod
So is the Hurst worth it? My dealer will install one for ~$300 (I know I could do it myself, after all, I once mechanic'd on a top fuel funny car, but my time is worth more doing other things). Should I jump in?
(Background: I installed a B&M Ripper in my '97 GT way back when and absolutely loved it.)

i installed the hurst competition short throw shifter and mine has rattled from the moment i installed it. i have tried everything i can think of and nothing has fixed it. the onlything that has come close was when i packed the pivoting portion with axle grease. it calmed it down a bit but it still does it. i'm actually considering contacting the company and seeing what they will do about it.

Wow wish i was closer to ya i'd install it for 300 lol. My shifter was like 180 something from brenspeed.
I heard that they improved the stock 2008 shifter I really had no problem with it except looks. The hurst just looks cool shifts are a little shorter
I saw the FRP people at OSH (Big Air show where FORD is a major spons) Visited about the FRP V6 package deal and noted the Hurst Shifter...the take away was Ford had Hurst tighten up the tolerances and got rid of the shakes....so the FRP version costs more but is the way I would go now...but I don't mind my little shaking....kind of cool to see horsepower waiting to go!!!

I didn't know FRP made a V-6 version of the Hurst Shifter. Got any idea where we can find one?
And what's the word on the Pro 5.0 shifter? Is there one for the V-6 and is it any good? I'm not a racer, just want a better shift than the stocker provides.
