[quote=Geno;1208471][quote=aircraft wrench;1207702]I saw the FRP people at OSH (Big Air show where FORD is a major spons) Visited about the FRP V6 package deal and noted the Hurst Shifter...the take away was Ford had Hurst tighten up the tolerances and got rid of the shakes....so the FRP version costs more but is the way I would go now...but I don't mind my little shaking....kind of cool to see horsepower waiting to go!!!

I didn't know FRP made a V-6 version of the Hurst Shifter. Got any idea where we can find one?
The shifter is available through Ford dealers or through selected speed shops. p/n M-7210-V retails for $269.00. __________________________________________________ ___
And what's the word on the Pro 5.0 shifter? Is there one for the V-6 and is it any good? I'm not a racer, just want a better shift than the stocker provides.
I'd still like to hear from anyone who bought the Pro 5.0 shifter.
FORD...I have the full catalog at home with the Kit P/N....Shifter, CAI, Dual exhaust with Bullet Muffs and X pipe I believe...and the Ford Spec'd Hurst shifter....as well as a tune that the FRP rep says really improves throttle response up and down...( premium fuel tune )
The handling package is also out there...
Best regards,
Jimmy
I believe the SRP was around $950 for the whole kit....

YMMV

Supposedly the fix is to take a piece of bike inner tube and sandwich it between the shifter and stick then locktite the bolts. I didnt have the shake for a while and i might give this try. mine only shakes at slow speed on ruff road and a little noise at higher rpm but figure it cant hurt to try
I put the Husrts in mine about three weeks ago and after a week I go the rattle. I will try the neoprene on the stick that should help and some grease in the center. It seems like the slop that would permit the rattle originates with the transmission itself.
I had a similar problem with a aftermarket shifter on my Z06. The rubber cushion was stock with that one so I added a little sound deadening material under the shift boot. The single biggest thing that solved the problem was putting a heavier shift knob on the shaft. MGW made a double chrome heavy knob which stopped the rattle.
I guess the bottom line is that this noise problem should not have gotten past the testing that the engineers that Hurst had design this device.

How are those hurst shifters I heard they vibrate alot has anyone experienced that with theirs?
There has been no definative post that says the rattle is gone. I hate my factory nochy shifter, but hate rattles more. Hurst at one time had a statement that it had been improved, but it seems if you ask a supplier who sells them if they have the improved version, they don't know what your talking about.

I would really like to install one of these shifters, but I hate rattles and noises. I sent an inquiry to one of the vendors who sells them and asked if Hurst had corrected the rattle problem with this shifter. Their response was that there is no problem with noise or rattles, if installed correctly. I can't believe that all the people who have complained about the noise on this forum have installed them wrong.
How many people are there who have installed them and NOT had noise problems? Would anyone care to comment?
While on the subject of noise and rattles, I took my 07 to the dealer for the TSB to correct front suspension noise, back in July. As a result, the noise went away and has not returned. It's like driving a different car now.
hey I installed mine a week ago and have not heard anything yet. Hopefully it will stay that way. What some people are doing is replacing the rear shifter bushing with a stock one b/c is softer??/?. what that makes me think is that the two nuts holding this rear bushing are either coming loose b/c the new bushing is harder and vibrate out or people are not tightening them enough - b/c I noticed when I was tightening them that these two nuts are very hard to twist and makes you think that they are really tight. but before I came out of the bottom of the car I inspected all the bolts/nuts and I took the rear bushing/metal saddle and shook it against the the floor pan and noticed that there was about a 1/4" space left between the bushing and the floor plan. So I tighten them even more(it was really hard, I was afraid to break them off) until there was no more gap....maybe this is the problem solver--idk...anyways the short shifts are amazing but it is slightly harder to shift and more mechanical feeling but more precise....
I just finished installing my Hurst shifter. I have not test driven it yet, because I dropped the insurance for the winter, so I'll have to wait until next week. I didn't have any problem installing it. It only took a couple of minutes to get the old one out through the floor.
The instructions do not mention that the inside dust boot is stretched over the top of the new shifter unit. I presume this is to keep dirt out of the pivot portion. The most difficult part was getting the bottom of that inside boot slipped over the top of the shift pivot flange. I hope this makes sense. Has anyone else with the Hurst noticed this?
Many on the forum have complained about the rattles and some have indicated that there was a lot (1/4") of vertical movement in the ball/pivot portion of the shifter. This one did not have any play at all in it. Also, this one does not have a set of matching grooves where the the chrome "Hurst" shifter handle attaches to the lever coming out of the top of the shifter unit. It had a step in the chrome lever which, when bolted together engages the flat top surface of the shifter lever.
I hope this one doesn't rattle. Perhaps these differences I have noted indicate an improved version of the shifter??
Although I have not driven it yet, my first impression is that the shift throws are not all that much shorter than with the old shifter.
Congrads. But I installed one not to long ago and it rattles a little sometimes. Do you guys think somethings loose, or does anyone else have the same problem?
I noticed when I removed the old shifter that the old shift lever was much more massive than the new one (maybe 1.5" in diameter under the boot). There didn't seem to be any apparent reason for it to be so massive. I spoke to a vibration analysis expert at work and he suggested that the difference in mass between the old shifter and the new one might account for the rattle or chatter that some are having with the Hurst shifter.
I have not driven mine since I put the shifter in yet, so I don't know whether or not mine rattles. If it does, I'm considering having a piece of steel machined to attach at the two bolts at the base of the hurst lever to give it more mass.

Ok I did not try the above but did the fix this guy came up with and it works great no noise and shifter feels tighter
