Cool My Axleback Magnaflow Vibrates. Anyone Else?

Just installed a Magnaflow axleback muffler and now the car vibrates at launch. Not always but sometimes. Is this normal?

No, its not. Most likely when you installed it, either you did't get something tightenedup properly or you shifted your pipes where it would rub against something at just the right vibration level (ie a given load at engine RPM). Since you said it was just when you take off, it will probably only show up at low RPM under load. taking off is the only time you see anythign under 1200rpm.

Check your overaxle pipes for clearance on the differential housing, panhard rod, and chassis.

I experience "vibrations" every time I drive my Mustang, but that's an entirely different issue.

I had the muffler guy check under the car and the muffler is not touching anything. I'm wondering if the car could experience "harmonic distortion" at a certain speed?

I suppose there could be a broken weld in the muffler. Rap it with a rubber mallet and see if you can duplicate the sound.

I rapped the muffler and it sounds like it may have a loose particle or two inside. Is this normal? I was under the impression a Magnaflow did not have any glass inside.

The Magnaflows are just a straight through perforated core tube inside the muffler housing which is filled with fiberglass. I could understand this on a set of Flowmasters which have internal welded baffles but this is odd. You may want to contact the vendor.

Default not so good vibrations

Hey. I am experiencing similar problems with my new dynomax dual set up. I had a magnaflow system first and it wasn't too bad but now it is really bad. I think the problem is that I removed the factory vibration dampeners when I removed the factory system. Did you have a big rubber filled canister welded to your y pipe? There was also one attached to the muffler. Those are the dampeners. I ordered replacements and am having them installed this week. If it works I will be happy and I will let you know if it helps.

i just installed a dual magnaflow system and my passenger side exhaust vibrated too (i dont have mufflers tho) i took things into my own hands and took some metal strapping wraped it round the the pipe right behind the tip and before the resonator and self tap srewed it to a useless area of the frame, doing this made the exhaust hug tight against the factory hangers. it also closed the gap between the tip and bumper, long story short i no longer have virbation......i know its not the conventional way to do it but it worked and only cost six bucks.....if its something you would consider doing i can crawl under and take a few pics.......

My Magnaflow duals vibrate and rattle too. I think its the midpipe possibly, as it sounds like its coming more so from the front than the rear. Its usually when I am sitting at a stoplight in gear with my foot on the brake. When I'm moving its fine. I didn't notice it until I installed my CAI and tune. Think it might have idled it up a bit. I had a weld break off of the last passenger side hanger that I thought was causing it, but I had it welded back up and it still does it.

My vibrations most often occur after I've driven the car for an hour and the exhaust had become very hot. I think, as suggested, I'll look into adding another dampening strap or something similar to secure the exhaust more firmly.

Default vibration update

Hi again. I got in the factory vibration dampers and took them to my muffler shop and had them clamped to the front of my x pipe and mufflers. The vibrations have stopped! The v6 has vibration issues and ford made these rubber dampers to eliminate the problem. They cost about $35 each and I recommend them to be replaced so DON"T toss them! Reuse them.
Cheers

Thanks for the info. I'm going to take my car to the muffler shop and get to the bottom of this. Thanx again!
