Default 2005 V6 Mustang... Need help with mod desicions

Hey everyone it's me again!

Alright, i've been bitten by the Mod Bug... man that's a pescy bug... but here's my dilema... I am going to have the money to do one of two things.

1) CAI + Tune

or

2) Pull out the True Duals w/H-pipe

Here's the problem, I do option 1 and i can install my self and get substancial preformance gains. Or I do option 2 where i'm not going to be able to do it myself so most of the cost difference is going to labor.

From what i've read that going from the single muffler (flowmaster) to a true dual will give me very slight preformance gains but will look more aggresive on the car.

But with the CAI + Tune, I should see more gains than with the duals but then again i will only have the single pipe sticking out of the back...

So there's my problem, sorry for writing a thesis. But these things are hard to decide. Dont know if i should go more show or more go.

Start w/ a CAI + Tune. BamaChips is a good choice. That way your car will start haulin' ass immediately. I know, because I installed my combo yesterday and the car is now, very fast.

Good luck!

Yeah, go with the CAI and Tune. Plus: If someone sees a single exhaust and you take off, what will they think?

id go with CAI and tune.... youll get more suprised looks on peoples faces when you take off and all they see is one pipe with the whistling CAI taking its action and the 6cylinders playing to the tune of your right foot..haha just my .02 cents

Thanks everyone... I already have the single flowmaster and i'm at about 76-80 decibles when i dig on it... a plane taking off is about 120... so the sounding bad ass part i think i'm already there... I think i am going to go for the CAI + Tune.

Here's a follow up question. For you all that have the combo already. What kind of tunes you all have? I keep hearing of the 91 octane tune. But what does that entail? is it possible to do a 89 octane tune but tweak it for more low end torque? What exactly do have control over and what can you make it do?

I did get it Mr. J... Thanks i replied. I'm pretty new to the car modding thing... the only mod i've ever done is replace a crome bumper on 2002 Tundra... So i'm pretty lost in the sauce at this point...

Martinez - not to help you make your choice, but if you can install a CAI then you can install the dual exhaust setup. It's not difficult at all.

I've got the CAI/Tuner combo installed with a single Flowmaster and i'm perfectly happy with it. Unless I get a serious deal on a set of GT Flowmaster American Thunder mufflers, I wont be going to dual exhaust any time soon. In my opinion, the gain you would see will be so insignificant that you're better off considering it an appearance mod.

The CAI/tune combo will evolve your car into a beast of the next level. Besides; the Flowmaster and 4.0L motor sound great together whether its a single or dual setup.

Thanks again for the opinions, i have got on order the CAI + Tune (thanks zenflow). So once i get that i'll be flashing the tuner (since it's for an auto right now) getting me some tunes (91 torque/perf and 87 perf). I'm happy excited and ready to have a gnarly beast. Now i have to find a dyno shop here near sun valley so i can see what my pony is going to be cranking out.

You would think chassis dynos are a dime a dozen in SoCal . . . they are if you own an import. My last visit home to La Canada I had work done on my Crown Vic at R&D Dyno Svc in Gardena. Its a bit of a drive from Sun Valley.

yeah surprisingly it looks like i'm going to have to go into an import shop to get my pony up on the dyno. Thats alright. I found one in burbank that specializes on WRX's.

Just to add my .02, I base lined @ 174 rwhp with my mine with an auto tranny.
I did CAI & tune, and put on an axle back muffler, and turned a 207 rwhp. My suggestion, CAI & tune.

are those numbers right Lutz? Cause i know that the V6 are getting 210hp. and i also know there is a loss in horses from engine to wheel. but a loss of 36 horses, that seems much. Then again i'm new to the game i just didnt expect that much of a loss of power from crank to wheels.
