Default 2007 V6 Mustang exhaust questions

I just got my first Mustang, a 2007 V6. Would like to change the stock muffler for a muffler that sounds better. Any suggestions? Was thinking about a magnaflow. Want to stay with the single exhaust so I do not have to cut or replace the bumper for duals.

Magnaflow or Flowmaster would probably be your best bet. Borla is nice but a pretty penny :P

Search around on the forums.

Even a GT takeoff muffler is a significant improvement over the V6 muffler.

I have the JBA Dual Exhaust and I am very happy with them I have the X Pipe (Was told H Pipe Voided Warranty) so went with the X Pipe and will go true dual when I add the Super Charger. I Have been very happy with sound and it did add some extra HP.

An H-pipe voids what warranty?

Yep, that is what I was told. I didn't want to risk it so went with the X pipe. I can un-tune the car and set the chip back to factory settings, but the exhaust is harder to hide, the x pipe they have no problem with. I am in CA so could be a CA thing or i was misinformed when getting my system installed. My dealer told me that i could still have trouble with having the cold air kit on it. I had a hard time with ford when my truck had issues and they did not want to cover oil leaks from day one, then the pan gasket went out at two months after my three years were up (had 30K miles on it) and they would not help with the $1,200 cost to repair it. After that I did not want to risk anything with this.

You were fed bad info. Actually any aftermarket midpipe could void your warranty. Makes zero difference if it's an X or an H.

These cars aren't meant to run on straight pipes. The crossover is needed to balance the exhaust gasses between banks.

Default RE: Exhaust

Yep, that was the first mod I ever did (but I eventually went to duals before trading in my stang). Anyway, just go with the JBA axle-back. I looks very nice with its rolled tip and it sounds better than stock. It also is not very loud. Overall it just produces a better and slightly louder sound than stock along with freeing up a few horses. I highly recommend the JBA single axle-back. Can find it pretty low priced too. I had a lot of fun when I eventually went to Pypes duals w/ x-pipe, but that gets old after a while. Also, if you go dual you will hear an extra rattle here and there. It's fun at first, but sometimes you just want a nice quiet ride while cruising long distances. Also, you will not gain ANY more power with going duals over a good single axle-back like the JBA. Good luck, and avoid the temptation to go duals.

I've heard conflicting reports on this too.

"Divorced Duals" are OK on the V6 because it is "even-firing".

Even one of the big mags said to use separate pipes.

I have an "X"... Ford built the "X"... good enough for me.

Since it is a pretty small engine, we shouldn't have problems either way.

Thinking of the "H" pipe that SO many people say sounds SO good.

What it can really do to balance out the sides when you are running WOT?... Um, all that flow shooting straight down the pipes going full bore... how much is actually "crossing over" that little 2 inch section of pipe?

Probably NADA.

X or divorced seem to be the best options.

i have been very happy with the set up that i have now. the car really moves for a V6 and i get pretty good mileage to boot. I added royal purple on my last oil change and that made some difference and kicked my mileage up a notch. I know this is an exhaust thread, but does anyone here have a supercharged V6 you can lend some advice on?

a GT take-off muffler will free up some horsepower and will probably be the cheapest muffler to obtain. Heck, i bet there are a bunch of them floating around the forum you can pick up for a good price.
