Default Removing the top dash panel 2005 Mustang V6

Anyone know how to remove the top dash panel? I have plans to wrap it in leather with custom stitching.

Did you ever figure out how to do the dash top? I am installing a monster tach and I do not want to drill into wires or hoses, etc. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

I'm unable to find anything in the service manual that talks about removing the dash top.

I have a feeling that the entire dash and top come off as an integrated unit.

Yeah. I was thinking that the whole dash and top were one piece, but the top of the dash actually lifts a little. It feels like the top dash is secured on both sides and in the middle above the air vents. I want to try and remove the securing points, but I just wanted to make sure first. It's better to find out if someone has done it before. That way I know what to expect when I tear it down.

Maybe I'll go to a junk yard and rip the top of the dash out. That way I can see exactly what Ford did wrong.

Default Update...

Update...

The tach and driver are in working perfectly! All I have left to do is clean up the interior parts and reinstall them.

It looks to me like the dash pad/top is pressed in during the interior build, and I didn't even entertain the notion of trying to force it in any way. All I can say is God bless the Internet and Dremel! After removing all of the center stack components, I was able to stick my fingers up between the vent tubing and it felt like the exact place I wanted to mount the tach. I put one finger on the top of the dash and thumped it from underneath, and determined that I was right. So I got the nads up to go ahead and drill through the dash top. Given the fact that I couldn't fit even a small, cordless drill inside the center stack area, I grabbed my dremel and a small bit, and buzzed through it like butter. It was perfectly located...

I took some pics as I went along, and combined with what I have already collected, I will write a tutorial on how I did it for anyone else who is considering this kind of install.

Thanks everyone for all your help and advice,

Jim
