So I took the Stang out to the track last night for the first time. It was my first time drag racing as well, so I found out quickly that I had plenty to learn (green means go on the street, not at the track, LOL! ).
I made 9 runs I believe, the first 3 were against a 335i that had been wanting to race me for awhile. He got me on the first two simply becasue I couldn't hook up with my street tires. No one with street tires was hooking up though. I guess the track was really crappy from what I was hearing. My friend said that the entire crowd took a collective gasp because I was losing control of the car. I played it cool and got down the track though. Anyway, on the third run, we had pretty much figured out the traction issues and I ran my best of the night at a 9.358 to his 10.033. Yes, I know that's kinda slow, but the track sucked and I was on street tires. There were GT500's running 8.7's if that's any kind of indication. My best 60ft time was 2.352. but I determined that was due to me just sitting there spinning everytime I launched.
All in all, it was a good time. I'll probably add a set of M/T's to the mod list so I can actually hook up next time and hit the 8's, hopefully low.
A good set os tires will make a big difference at the track.
You will easily be in the mid to low 8's. in the 1/8.

I want to get a couple of stock 17x8's and put some drags on them. What size should I get? I looked at M/T's website and it was a bit confusing. Who else makes them?

That's awesome! Where'd you go? I know Irwindale has an 1/8 mile, hopefully I'll make it out there one of these days.

I went down to Qualcomm. I stay about a mile from it, so it was a pretty simple ride. The going consensus was that the track there isn't really all that good. It seems to be more for getting your fix as opposed to really trying to see how good your car is running. I talked to a lot of guys and they said the track at Barona is where the action is. I'll use the Q as my warmup before I make that trip though.
Man I would love to live a mile from the track, The nearest one for me is 1 1/2 hours away.
