Hey guys,
I have finally been able to convince my parents into letting me purchase a V6 '05 or '06. I have to trade in my Honda, which is a down payment of about $10,000 hopefully. Then, I will pay $2000, paying about $200 -$250 a month, then after paying that off, my parents will pay the rest. My question for y'all is, what options comes with a Pony Package available on the V6 models? I plan on doing some heavy modifications, especially to the exterior, and was wondering if the Pony Package would be worth getting. I really like the Fog Lights, and the Grille, but does anyone who has a Pony Package have any input on whether it is a good option or not? I DO NOT like the 16" standard wheels on the Deluxe V6 Models, and the Pony Package comes with an upgrade to 17" Rims, which, I do like, a plus. However, does the Pony Package have any interior upgrades? For those of you who have the basic V6 Deluxe coupe, do you wish you had added the extra $1500 and purchased the Pony Package, or are you happy with the basic V6?
Another Question:
I have never purchased a used car before, so, I was wondering if y'all could give me some "Buying Tips." This would be extremely helpful, especially things to look for that y'all have noticed often pose problems to normal Mustang owners. Do the 2005 V6 Models have any significant differences from the 2006 V6 Models?

I sent you a pm.. but i would get the pony package.. it looks better and got more options to it.. When buying a used car, definately test drive it, i would take it to your own machanic to make sure it hasnt been in a bad wreck and had structural damage. im sure others will chime in.

check everything over well. listen to the engine, but being an '05, or '06 you won't really have to worry much thats a new car.

Get the pony package. When I had my 07 v6, I had the package on it and it looked great! I wouldn't get a mustang w/o fogs on it unless it was a bullitt... The pony package has the GT sway bars, front and back which helps a lot with body roll. 17" prem wheels, foglights w/ corral, lower body stripe, and "mustang" floormats. If you look in my gallery, you can see what it looked like, but I didn't have the right stripe. Dealer mess up b/c I had to order the stripe separate b/c the factory wouldn't install a gold stripe on a car with black interior. I would highly recommend finding a car with the Interior upgrade package also. Leather wrapped shifter/steering wheel, myColor gauges, etc. Good luck!

Stock as can be, just trying to reverse the damage the previous owner caused.
I have the pony package and i like it, i kind of want to switch up my grille so i sort of wish i had the non pony package for that but if you like the way the grille and fog lights look then there's really no downsides to the pony package. As for those wheels, yea the 16's are uggggggggly but the 17's... yea they are better but honestly... are you going to keep the stock rims?

New Set Up: 4.6 3v With Manual Trans, Bolt Ons
- rear stabilizer bar
- larger front stabilizer bar
- ABS
- Traction control
- 17" wheels
- tail spoiler
- grill w/ fog lamps
- floor mats
- unique badging
Seems worth it to me.
As for used cars:
1) Find the ones that appeal to me aesthetically as well as the ones with the best deal
2) Test drive them
a) check ALL things that move: open, slide, twist, turn, etc.
b) I drive it normal, gun it, make sure to turn right and left and also make HARD turns as well
3) shortlist my favorites
4) Carfax the ones I really like
5) Haggle away!
and REMEMBER, KNOW what you want for your Honda before offering them a price on the Mustang. Check Edmunds or KBB. If you want $10,800 for your Honda don't let them give you what you want for the Mustang and then turn around and only give you $9,800 for your Honda... you're still paying a higher price, they're just "playing with the numbers" to appease you.
Research your car and KNOW before dealing with used saleman. And DON'T let them strong arm you. Be respectful of them but don't let them knock you around. Best thing is to just know your car and the car you want financially...

The first thing a dealer will ask you is what monthly payment's are you looking at. They do this because it give's them room to play with the number's. The best way to handle it in my opinion is tell them to give you the best price on the new car and the best price on the trade in and the payment's will work themselve's out. It's a good starting point. A very important thing to look for in a used car believe it or not are the seat bolt. The one's that attach the seat to the floor. If the car has had water damage they will replace the carpet but not the bolt's they will have a lot of corrosion. Not normal surface rust. A friend of mine owned a toyota dealership back home and filled me in on alot of secret's.

A dealer will NEVER give you the best deal unless you know him personally and know him very well. Know the trade in cars value... the value of the car you want and offer that. Then let the SALESMAN work to get a price he wants. Negotiate for sure but never let a salesman control any part of the process...

Yeah, this is big for people buying in auction but from a dealership? There are shady dealerships for sure but any reputable dealership would never buy a flooded car let alone sell one. Well, SOME would... I guess.

I would recommend you to definitely go with the Pony package; not only does it come with the "classic grill" treatment, it also includes an interior upgrade to leather and GT suspension. As you mentioned, it also comes with the 17" rims which are much nicer. I've heavily modified my "pony package" '06 Mustang and I'm very happy with it....good luck.
I liked the Pony Package so much, I put it on my 05 GT Mustang

My v6 Mustang didn't come with the Pony Package when I purchased. Now had the dealer had a fully loaded v6 in stock with the Pony Package there would have been a very good chance that I would have got it. I don't regret not getting it...however I know it would have made it a lot easier to wire up my fog lights when I changed body kits.
Hey I noticed you live fairly close to me, if you need help with anything just give me a buzz.
