Another poll...just kicking the tires on this thought...
As I consider more and more modifications to my GT I have actually given thought to something I thought I would never do.....getting racing stripes. I had never liked them but I have seen many cars on here that are the bomb with stripes. Really looks great on some cars.
Last summer I saw a Grabber Orange convertible with black racing stripes and really thought it looked cool.
I am attaching 2 pics of my GT so you won't have to go to my gallery to look. My interior is black/dove gray. I assume that since it is a convertible the stripes really need to match well with the interior color scheme...that would be my thought.
So let me know what your thoughts are.....to stripe or not to stripe....that is the question....
If you want to suggest stripe styles and colors please do so.
Oh and I know gettting them painted is the best way to go but that is out of the question. Too expensive and I also want to be able to return to non-striped if I were to do it and then get tired of it. Also, if I were to have vinyl done, how would that work with the hood scoop ? Can that be part of the striping or would I need painted stripes to do that ?
Here are a couple pics of the ride....use them to picture it with racing stripes....
im not a fan of racing stripes some look nice but i see ricers and stuff all day here that having racing stripes its getting kinda played out

i like racing stripes. however, they do look better on coupes. the only black one ive seen that looks good had silver stripes with silver razor wheels. i do agree with the tuner/import comment...they usually have all types of stripes, flames, and other various vinyls, so the occasional clean, solid color stang can look better.
Stripes look terrific on some cars and almost out of place on others. I wouldn't have a GT500 without them (although some people ordered black GT500s with stripe delete for that all-black look).
To me, certain colors (like yellow, for instance) need a contrast or they are too overwhelming. A yellow vert with black top is fine. A yellow coupe with black stripes is fine. But an all-yellow coupe is just too much yellow for me.
Your black vert looks terrific without stripes. It might look good with stripes, but I think they could make your car too busy looking. mrvandermay's black vert looks great with red stripes (to match his interior), but his hood accepts stripes well and he configured them to work with the design of his hood. Your hood would have to be striped the way the Shelby GT hoods are. They paint the shelby hoodscoop the stripe color and then they add a 1" wide piece of vinyl tape down the center that is the same color as the car. (The wedge-shaped spoiler looks better with stripes than a wing does, but we know you are already planning that change.)
If you really want to add stripes, some shade of silver that would complement your dove interior would be the obvious choice. White stripes, red stripes, and gold stripes all look good on black cars. But silver would be most appropriate for your car. But I don't think you need stripes.

I voted no, but think about another striping scheme. Like just something on the hood?
I'm thinking along the same lines. A single, wide, subtle dark gray (or maybe flat black?) stripe on the hood, about the width of the scoop would look real good. Something along the lines of the flat-black / matte style stripe on the (2003?) Mach1. Nothing on the rockers, trunk, front or rear fascia. Maybe even something (again, really subtle) narrower than the scoop and disappears into the front opening (nothing over or behind the scoop). Just my $0.02...
I didn't vote either way. I'm rather ambivalent on the subject. However, Mrvandermey has red stripes on his vert to match his interior and they look pretty cool. How about a set of grey stripes to match your interior? I'd check out his gallery for some ideas.
Speaking of which, I haven't seen Eric around the forums for a while. That new house of his must be taking up a lot of his spare time, not to mention mod money.

OK, so I've added a few things to it. Check my Profile - too many to list here.
how about a side stripe? a boss stripe like a 69 boss or hocket stick off a 70 boss. go graphic-express.com and they have about any combo you like and any color. my 08gt is white and i have the reverse c stripe but modified it to not go behind back wheel. my car has charcoal leather it understated to me plus i have black honeycomb rear panel like i had on my 71 mach 1. just some suggestions. have not posted a picture of my stang yet but there is a red one with a shaker hood with same stripes.
