Just joined the forums, picking up my mustang Friday can't wait. Dealer said that a Roll Bar for the mustang would be $1200+Labor should I go for it? Or is that a crazy price to be paying?
Its about $420-$440 to purchase a CDC light bar online. So figure around $500 after tax and shipping. So that leaves about $700 to install???? that sound wayy too steep for me. I estimated about $800-$900 tops for a light bar.
I think there seems to confusion between Roll Bar & Light Bar.
The CDC light bar is decorative and only connects the body where the rear vert windows are. A ROLL BAR is connected at 4 points to the floor/Frame of the car and provides roll over protection. ONLY a Roll Bar is considered acceptable as protection on a race track.
I looked into getting one, im on the fence at this point but it was $1500 fabbed & installed.

Here is a good website that will give you an idea of what a good rollbar should really cost...Get someone who knows how to weld to install it... This will be way less than $1200. If your looking for basic protection from a rollover all you need is a 4pt rollbar. For open track or the drag strip than you should look at the 8 or 10pt cages. They are still way less than $1200 from these guys.
One quick question for clarification - do you mean a real roll bar (i.e. can support the weight of the car in a rollover) or do you mean a light bar, which is what I think the responses here are referring to (edit: except for the two immediately above)?
Roll bar for $1200, installed, is about right. I'm having one done in my car for road racing by my speedshop as was quoted $595 for bar and $534 for install.
If it is the lightbar you are after (and if it is the dealer install, it probably is) get it from American Muscle (best prices) and install yourself or have someone do it for you. I did mine and took about 2-3 hours, good directions and easy if you are somewhat handy.

I own a convertible and got a Light bar back when they were pricey, and I paid $460 for the crimson light bar and about $350 to get installed. Any more and it is highway robbery....plus do understand that the light bar may look like a rollbar but it is NOT a rollbar, nor is claimed to be one. So make sure you and your dealer are speaking the same language....for an actual rollbar may be that expensive.
