I have had no issues with this car in the rain. I have also drove it in the snow with the stock all-season tires on it. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it handles. I've owned two other generation Mustangs that I drove in the snow and they could be scary at times.

The cafe rating system changed in 2007. The Mustang GT's rating went from 17/25 to 15/23. Same engine, just new cafe test.

I own a GT and in mixed driving my mpg are in the low 20's (20-22mpg). All highway I'm around 27mpg. The lowest average I've seen for a tank full is 18.5 mpg.

Seems to me like the general opinion is Ford is far from "horrible" but pretty good and getting better.

My car has ~23k on it and I have had no issues at all.

I average 27.3 mpg highway, and 19.1 city with my GT. Of course, if I get more spirited, I get less mpg.

In regards to reliability, the Mustang is consistently rated as one of the most reliable cars on the road (Consumer Reports, J.D. Powers, Owner Surveys). I'm on my third Mustang, and my experience confirms what the experts say. And so anyone that says this car is unreliable obviously doesn't know what they are talking about.

IMO this car is far superior to a Vette as a daily driver in terms of comfort and ease of driving. My brother in law has a Vette, which I like a lot, but it is not as comfortable on trips as the Mustang is. I wish I could own both, but I personally prefer the Mustang.

If I were buying a V6, I would go for the Pony Package and the Appearance Package. (Of course, for just a little more, you could have a premium GT.)

Yeah I got back into the stangs with the new s-197 model. First one was a v-6 pony pkg loaded with everything, bought it for a car the family could enjoy. It was awesome, had decent power, got decent fuel mileage and handled really good also. I traded that on an 08 GT....fuel mileage is actually just as good on the GT cars as the 6 bangers. Check your insurance rates, that might deter you from getting a GT, but any other factor I would throw out the window completely.

Here's a guy that seems confused at best; a Corvette or 6-cyl. Mustang? Then he insults us for the brand of car we drive. That sure gets me in the mood for a kind response! Dude, there is no "general opinion that Ford is horrible". I suspect you are about 17 and don't even own a car, so please try to be honest here.

I can't see comparing a V6 Mustang to a Corvette. In fact, I can't even see comparing a Mustang GT to a Corvette.
You ask about snow and rain - absolutely forget it in a Corvette. Even mine, which I'd consider more snow worthy than a modern C5/C6, I won't even think of driving if it's snowing. Heck, if it's raining it hides away too! Mostly because it's all numbers matching and original, but also because I know it wouldn't have much of a fighting chance in bad weather.
A mustang GT would probably be OK in snow. Mine won't see snow. Mine does see some good rain downpours though. On the stock tires it did pretty well. Once I get some real rubbers on it, it should stick better.
As far as Ford versus Chevy in reliability; it all comes down to the owner. When you're out of the super-cheap-and-crappy cars (low-end Kia, Nissan, Honda etc.) anything well taken care of will pay you back by being there all the time when you need it. Heck, I have a bud with a early 1990's Honda that he's taken good care of, has well over 300k on the odometer, and it still runs very well!
If you're looking for the power, handling, american idol that is the Corvette, you're going to be highly disappointed in a V6 'stang. You'll be slightly disappointed with the GT, but not much.
If you're looking for the power, handling, american idol that is the Mustang, you'll probably be OK in the V6, but much happier in the GT.

So, what are your goals with the car? How old are you, even? Can you afford the Corvette? The insurance on top of it? Have a place to store it in the winter?

I agree and that's why he wants a V6 instead of a GT. He couldn't afford the Insurance.

I never said I'm comparing a mustang to a corvette. A mustang can be compared to a camaro because they're both pony cars. You can compare a mustang to a ford gt.

Anyway, the reason I want to get a Mustang V6 is because I need something to drive around while in University. I don't need a GT because I don't need the extra expense. (Gas, insurance, actual cost of car.) That's why I'm interested if it can be driven all year 'round, and the reliability factor. I will probably get a much better Mustang after university, and buy a corvette along with it.

I have owned a variety of GM, Chrysler, Ford, German, and Japanese cars for over 40 years, and my opnions of reliability are largely based on personal experience. In my case the various Ford's have turned in the most reliable performances. Currently I drive an 08 GT with under 10K miles and a 97 Explorer with over 250K. That Explorer is a manual-trans, 4dr, 4wd XLT with a 4.0l pushrod V6 and has been far and away the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. So far the Mustang has been great with no issues whatsoever and getting 27-29 on the highway and 22 around locally. It is an amazing amount of car for the money and I am totally pleased.

Incidently, my experience for the worst reliability has been with the various German cars I have owned. I had an Audi that was in the shop every other week for the few years I suffered with it. GM products and Chrysler products have been similar and in between. The 2 Japanese cars I had were very good initially, but began to have more issues after 100K miles, which almost all of my cars get to, and beyond. Still, on the whole they were up with the half dozen Fords I've had. YMMV.

Love it but ok your young and cant afford a corvette yet along a gt but you inspire to buy 2 mustangs in the future, yet you come in here and insult our prides and joy... you might wanna rethink your car choice just go by a 99 honda accord put a grapefruit shooter for the exhaust and leave us alone...

I think you quoted the wrong guy......I am a grown man and can afford a couple of new vettes if I wanted them, but I am a die-hard GM hater, so why would I want to make that mistake??????

I own both, a 90 vette and 06 mustang. The vette will out handle a mustang any day of the week but the comfort level doesn't come close. Also, in a straight line, my stang will run cirlces around the vette. I realize the year spread makes a big difference. My vette gets better milage than the stang. The first 05 stang I drove was a V6 and I was pleasantly surprised with it. I have also driven an 07 vette. All things considered, especially for what you want, I think the Mustang is the better choice.

Yeah, the 90 vette has some time catch up to do vs. the new stang no doubt, but in its day, it was a great car. You should try driving a stang with some suspension work done to it, they will surprise you when compared to a stock GT.
