I will be buying a car in the future and a Ford Mustang is on my list of possibilities. I'm a die-hard Corvette lover. But the Mustang has caught my eye, particularly because of the new design. Besides, pony cars are fun.
I would probably buy a V6 210HP. I am not looking for a GT.
1. How does the car handle all year 'round. In snow? Rain?
2. How is it on gas? I know it has worse fuel economy than a 2006 Corvette. Which is something amazing because the corvette has 300+ horses on the V6 Mustang.
3. The most important question however is how is the reliability? I'm going by the general opinion that Ford is horrible. Basically anywhere I've looked around I've seen that it's unreliable. I'm not saying this is true, but I'd like to know from people who actually drive them.
Now I know you all love your cars but please try to be honest here.
I get better hiway mileage with my 07' GT than I did with my 06'Pony(29.4 vereses 26.5 avarage). My 07'has 3;31's but I'm changing out to 4:10's so no more MPG.
If you get a V-6 get the Pony edition .The driving lights work pretty well and optioned out the leathers seat are nice along with a shaker sound system. If you have a lot of hills or mountain passes the V-6 has plenty of torque for pulling the passes.
comparing a vette and a V6 pony is apples and oranges. They are just two different animals. But yes, it does get better MPG but you also have to fork over a LOT more money to purchase a vette.
I have a GT myself and she has tons of giddy-up so i'd imagine the V6 has plenty of pep, if not you can invest a small amount of money and bump up the HP by at least 40HP for less than 1k while getting better MPG at the same time!!!
My car has done pretty well in the snow and the rain, make sure you get Traction control with the ABS package. I think it comes in the Pony package anyway.
there is a member on here who used to be very active but not so much anymore. SOHCman had over 75,000 miles on his V6 mustang in under 2 years. The bottom line with all cars regarding reliability is how well you take care of them. Keep up with regular maintenance and you'll have your pony for many many years to come

im looking at buying a v6 myself but im a step ahead of you....my friend bought a 97 gt with over 80k miles and hasnt had a problem with it for a year and a half and hasnt had any work to it in the past..that may not be a 05-09 but thats still an 11 year old car running great (and he drives rough with it)...i think the streotyipical ford comes from the trucks not cars
next the mpg is pretty awesome too...if you put a decent air instake and change exhaust ull get over 30 mpg on a 05 v6 but its average stock is like 26
and last i live in pittsburgh so i get big thunderstorms and lots of snow..and dont forget the moutains...so that is also a large concern about the stang...but my friends havevt had a problem in the snow or rain...in fact my bro just wrecked my moms boxster in the rain 2 months ago and my school has like 20% of boys have mustangs and they havnt wrecked them...well dont pull the E-brake like the dumb few ha
#1 A vette does not get better gas mileage than a mustang
#2 A vette does not have 300 more HP than a mustang
#3 Where are you people getting your facts about fords being unreliable? I've owned fords all my life and they have been the most worry-free vehichles I know of.
#4 I would still like to know about the mullet

Well I have the V6 pony package and I love it, it was alot cheaper then a gt and a corvette for that matter, and its been as reliable as I could hope, no problems at over 40000 miles. The pony package has an upgraded suspension and abs and traction control which is nice. I live in East TN so we have a bunch of hills and curves and I do just fine, of course its not a porsche but I havent had any problems. And one day when I grow up my little bitty V6 will be a vette killer, it might cost a fortune but Id love to blow by a vette waving my V6 symbols. And do you have a mullet?
This sounds like troll to me. Dam them Chevy lovers. I wouldn`t piss on a chevy if it was on fire.
Now I can see how wrong I was. .
Why can't we admit both cars are really great? They both carry American Pride and I don't see the big deal about comparing them. When I mentioned it I didn't think people would think I'm a troll.
Also no, I do not have a mullet.
So can I get some serious answers PLEASE. Thanks to those who have posted honestly.
That's what I am thinking. The GT would be the happy medium. Good horsepower and a pretty good MPG. And if youre ever into putting more power in it. Thats not a problem as there are tons of performance parts you can choose from. And if youre wanting SERIOUS power ( 500+ HP), you can do that as well. Both cars are indeed american and such and have a heritage, but so does the rivalry. Rivalry is what has gotten both so well in my opinion. Or should I use the term Competition?

I've had a Corvette plus many Mopars and street rods, but my 2006 GT is my favorite. Its well put together and gets 18-24 mpg.Ford gets a lot out of a small(cu.in. wise)engine.Got 32,000 on mine in year and a half.
