Default Question about Hood Scoops...

Hey guys...I just had a quick question regarding hood scoops. Is it fine to just put it on without there being a hole on the actual hood? Thats what hood scoops are for right? to let air in..Also can you guys link me to some of your personal favorites?

Thanks

Most scoops are cosmetic only. Even the shaker, which is technically functional, is more cosmetic..

the more cold air the better...engine runs cooler at the least...if you can get it pushed into the engine even better except for most new mustangs pull their air from some place other than the hood

Functional scoops let in more air, rain, dirt, etc. If you daily your car I can imagine a real scoop just makes a real mess.

In the new factory scoops there is no hole, scoops are purely for show.

The is a secret though, don't tell anyone.

The one thing I like about the shaker is it reduces the underhood pressure which virtually eliminated all high speed hook shake for me.

If you look at the hood scoops in the middle of the hood, and the position of the stock airbox, then you know why the scoops are fake. They would do very little since they don't channel cold air to the airbox. A functional hood would be your best bet for getting colder air in there.

are the factory hood scoops bolt on? i would think that would be way better than a stick-on. is that a dealer item only?

Combination of bolts and tape. The Roush is similar...

My hood scoop is attached with just 3M tape and I've never had any problems with it. Today's adhesives can be tenacious.

OK, so I've added a few things to it. Check my Profile - too many to list here.

My old 3D Carbon scoop was tape only. It took all the strength I could muster to remove that SOB.

The GT apperance package hood scoops are bolt and 3M taped. No hole in the hood. And yes you suffer from the high speed Testies in your throat hood dance. I'm going to get some hood pins to stop that.

The only 'functional' hood scoop is the shaker.
