Ok, so the title says it all. My convertible top catches air on the freeway when it is up. I mean it looks like someone inlates the car like a balloon just to clear up any confusion. I'm assuming it isn't supposed to do this. If I'm correct then why does it happen, and please, what can I do about it? Thanks in advance.

that is one of the joys of owning convertible

your latches may need adjusting for a tighter fit......

Ok, so the title says it all. My convertible top blows up over 60 or so when it is up. I mean it looks like someone inflates the car like a balloon just to clear up any confusion. It seems like there are tabs on the braces that would normaly hold the top down. Afew of these towards the right rear of the car were not conncected when I bought it used so i just folded them down to keep them from puncturing the top. I haven't had the opportunity to see another convertible Mustang on the freeway recently but the convertibles I've seen do not do this. I think during acouple 120 plus runs and the 90 I drive regularly the wind got under the top where it was disconnected over the rear window and pulled it free of the rest of the tabs underneath. I just can't see a car manufaturer producing a car that the the top blows up like a balloon over 60. I'm assuming it isn't supposed to do this. If I'm correct then why does it happen, and please, what can I do about it? Thanks in advance.

Not sure on the fix, but i've seen tons of convertibles, even mustangs, do that. I'm sure my Saleen did that too.

Now first, yes. I posted another thread about the same problem. However there was a reason for this. The response to my previous post was a terrible response for anyone to post, especially a site mediator, and I'm offended at basicaly being told to live with it. No mention of the cables and staples that are supposed to hold the top in place? Cars do not do this off the showroom floor, they don't now and they didn't in 2004.

This is not the fun of owning a convertible, this is the crappy part of owning a convertible and i'm trying to fix mine. Now, any HELP fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated as it makes the car look like crap anywhere but a parking lot and at a stop light, and will eventually cause irreversible damage to the canvas. If your solution is to just accept it as part of owning a convertible and live with it I don't think this is the place for you, as that is terrible advice for any problem. Thats how things fall apart. I mean what if someone posted "There is a knocking sound coming from under the left side of the hood on my '03 Cobra." and someone just said, "Whatever, they all do it."? Now, Thank you again for any REAL help anyone can provide. Insight from a similar problem would be greatly appreciated as well.

If I seem a little frustrated it's because I am. I have been told by a site mediator that esentially this is just supposed to happen, when searching this very site I've come up with better answers. I really thought this was a better place to post questions and recieve real help. Did the original owners of this site sell it to some corporation that doesn't give a crap about it's reputation or what?

In case no better answers are posted on this thread and other people with the same problem want to fix it try searching "convertible" and look for the "installation" and "removal" threads.

no you were not told live with it, you were told in so many word that it is common problem with convertible....

if memory serve me correctly you were advised to have the latches adjusted....

convertibles by their nature are far from airtight....

considering i have not own a ragtop in years which by the did the same thing yours is doing

my final suggestion would be take either to a dealer or reputable repair shop and have a expert correct the problem...
