Unhappy Buyers remorse

I've put about 1000 miles now on my GT and I'm finding I'm not as jazzed about it as I was. Mostly it's the power. My previous car was a 68' Pontiac Firebird with a 400 so I guess it's not fair to compare those two. But still I've had a few stoplight confrontations and I wasn't very impressed with the results.

One was a Dodge Ram Hemi "Rumble Bee". I did end up pulling away from it but the truck held it's own to the point I thought it was gonna leave me. I know those are a 5.7L with 345-hp which is much more than the GT but still, it's a truck.

Another situation was getting onto the freeway some muddy old 90s' chevy 4-door sedan was trying to stay ahead of me before it turned into 1 lane. So I stomped it and so did he and he held the lead.

I guess there is nothing I can do about it other than wait for the warranty to run out so I can add things but that is going to be a long wait with results like those.

That's part of the reason I went with the 6. I drove a gt and after my 64 LeMans the 8's just don't compare. My LeMans would eat it alive.

I think the 05 mustang is the best looking car I have ever seen and one of the nicest(for what it is) cars I have driven.

I drive the Mustang daily and the LeMans when I want some real power and no remorse about spending too much on a car that won't do what I would have wanted it to do.

So go buy a 6 for the fun of it and go buy some old american muscle for the power.

I hope you're not comparing a stock lemans with a 326 to an 05 GT. I had a 64 GTO with 389 and although it sounded and felt faster to my stang, the truth is I would have left that car in my dust. The number 1 rule in driving the 05 is to know when to shift and don't take 10 seconds doin it.

Show me a 60's muscle car that can run consistent mid-13's on 87 octane, get ~16MPG when stomping it and +22 on the highway, and can handle anywhere like this car...you can't name one!

If you're THAT concerned about speed, dump $5k into a Procharger with 8psi boost, and you'll be leaving just about everyone in the dust - and still have a daily driver on your hands.

Boglin,

The '05 GT is factory programmed to respond to your driving habits and sets shift patterns/response/power curves accordingly. If you've nursed it along so far that's what it's going to expect and the fly-by-wire technology will respond like putty. Disconnect the battery cable for 30 minutes then go drive it like you stole it to reset the computer. That might make a difference (it shure did with mine). Now it shifts like a bat out of hell.

I've read this before, and while driving to school today up some hill, the shifting seemed sluggish, and I had to floor it just to get it to respond. When I first got the car, it would haul @ss when barely touching the gas, now it has more play and I find myself pushing all the way down to get the same response. So I guess I'll try this little trick over the weekend.

Chad, these 05 Gts have adaptive control.Take that CD out of your users packet and view it and you'll get an idea of why you cars doing what its doing..

I have an automatic GT.After a couple of weeks of my driving habits I have no throttle lag no hesitation in shifts at all.

If you had your GT in OD with the TC on and didnt drop a gear......I can understand why your trailing behind.

I dont condone street racing or hiway-hero driving.......but if you must. You need to learn your GT's capabilities.
Dont get bummed out......that Stang will do ya right.:thumbsup

And I'm with loudog.........and I'll also add that this new Stang is an "American Muscle Car".........a mirror of yetserdays muscle with better tech.

No offence 1stmustang,But I dont think you've done your research.

I mean comon.......high 13's on 87 pump

First of all, why would anybody get an automatic with a 300HP V8 mustang? The auto robs you of precious RWHP. Even with a stick these stockers are not living up to the full potential. They are mass produced for gas mileage adds and insurance quotes. That said, do you realize they have ALUMINUM blocks and heads? They are ready to be tweaked and let out of the corral. Get a CAI and tuner on it, if an automatic you may want a shift kit, get some exhaust and bare minimals like pulleys etc. Then see how you like the car. These cars will launch once you make some minor adjustments and no dealer will void the warranty for a cold air intake and new exhaust if installed correctly.

Here are the specs on the Hemi:
2005 SLT Hemi, probably lighter than the Super Bee as well...
0 to 60 mph: 6.8 seconds
1/4 mile:15.11 @89.06

Mustang 2005 GT

0-60MPH 5.1,manual,there is a motor trend article that states they got a 5.1 from an auto GT
1/4 mile: 13.9@104.0 MPH(conservitive)

numbers don't lie...

Don't wait, slap a blower or a turbo on that pig.

I've got a pickup truck that'll spank my Mustang's ass, but I still love the new car! :thumbsup

If you guys haven't noticed ... the new Motor Trend (I think its Motor Trend) does a comparison of the V6, GT, Saleen, GTR, GT500. And this time they used a GT-manual ... and posted a 4.9s 0-60 time.
