Has anyone had their GT dynoed with the new K&N aircharger intake on it? I know that K&N says its 15hp gain but Im curious how torque is affected. As well as A/F ratios. I dont have a whole lot of money yet for modding but if the K&N truly works the way they say it does then its a great first step. Considering in a few months I can buy the predator tuner and squeeze some more out of the K&N.
I just put mine on last month and so far it is my best upgrade! I've done exhaust, jet chip & throttle body spacer and this is the most noticable difference. I did not replace the hydro carbon trap like K&N suggest. It sounds a lot better without it. Worth the purchase.
Yes its legal! but you might have some troubles getting it smog checked. I don't think it will pass visual inspection. It is very easy to replace the original air cleaner so doing it once a year isn't a big deal.
Do you need a re-flash with the K&N kit? I'd like the 15 extra horses but wish to leave the stock tune in place for now.

Wow, take about win-win-win, it probably improves mileage too not to mention that awesome sound that you get with a CAI ! 15 RWHP must mean it's good for 17-18 ponies at the crank How come the other CAI kits require a reflash and this one does'nt kj-cinci? Also whats the cost? This would seem to be a must have mod. Thank's once again for your help m8 .

Yes it will improve MPG and sound. What you will miss out on until your tune is (some of) the throttle response, moved tq limitor, smoothenes over the register, and moving the red line rev limitor cut off...
K&N was late with theirs, for a reason, R&D, they just put the time into making it not run lean. I think it has a better MAF sensor, an awesome smooth 'straight' tube and the filter seem stubbier in the design...
It does not run lean! A bit leaner than stock but less lean than many custom tunes!
I've seen it for $250.
No, I do not have it, I do not want it (doesn't fit my plans), I do not work for K&N, I just happen to know it does what it says, and kudos are do... :thumbup

With the HC trap removed not only will it not pass emmissions testing (They say that Carb certification is pending however) but it may well allow the engine to run "lean" with the restriction removed. In the installation instructions #22 is states that "Failure to install the Hydrocarbon trap will result in poor performance and possible engine damage". I would assume that the only way to damage the engine doing so would be by allowing it to run lean? Maybe that is why K&N suggested leaving it in the airway? Just a thought.
Is it worth the money to go for some of the other CAI such as JLT or C & L performance that come with a tuner? is the HP increase worth it? Some here have posted that you still need to retune the system anyway with a K & N
I am planning on added a CAI and a cat back exhaust w/ x-pipe at the same time, what kind of HP total should I expect.
