Default Newbie Exhaust Question -06 v8

I'm kind of new to modifying, based on just getting my first car, but I'm looking into getting exhaust to make the v8 sound deeper/louder, and I'm curious as to what company people would recommend, I know of flowmaster/magnaflow/borla/bassani, but just wanted to get some people's opinions. (06 Mustang GT 6spd)
Also my newbie question is - whats the difference between axleback and catback? Thanks
Wes

wow you are new, first off congrats on having a bad a$$ car. now lets make it better. for the axle back question crawl under the rear of your car and see that the mufflers are between the rear bumper and the rear axle. there is a connection point after the axle. so if you get an axle back system you get what you see from the axle back , which is basically a muffler with a tip and a small welded on pipe. since your down on the ground keep looking. you can find out a lot about your car by looking around under there. check out the suspension, and such.

as far as what mufflers to get, is is up to you. search around the forum and websites for sound clips. about all mufflers are good for about 2 hp. if you want hp in this exhaust system get long tube headers, no cats, x-pipe and some mufflers.

hope this helps, and go read some mags and get educated about your new car, it's fun i promise.

keep this in mind....the muffler you get is the one you have to listen to...not just from light to light and around the corner...but on the interstate too...for hours and hours....i used to have a roarin flowmaster on my 95....that got old quick...i'm thinking i may just keep the stock gt mufflers on my 06...i love the roar and it fades at the right times...

Wow thanks for all the replies, I havent quite gotten the car yet, I'm getting it thursday for my 18th birthday, ill definately crawl under and take a look, i get i would just want axelback for sound, cause i dont have 800$ to drop on a full exhaust and my dad wont let me take out the cats (******* lol).

I was also lookin at Corsa Xpipe, maybe ill just get that, I heard X-pipes just make it a bit louder or so, but yeah I understand about the driving on the highway, my friend has an SLP SS Camaro and it has the slp loudmouth exhaust and it gets quite annoying after awhile with how loud it is, but i plan on getting subs to blur out the exhaust (got the shaker 500 so gonna get louder subs than the shaker1000 - too used to ford subs since i was drivin an 02 mustang gt w/ mach1000 system - wasnt loud enough =P)

Also heard that the 05-06 is a bit quieter stock exhaust than the previous body style, might be true dont know, but certainly handles better than my 02 mustang! Got tons of ideas to do = ) I've been readin these forums and some accessories forums, just gotta keep it all under warranty hehe, I think I'm either gonna go for flowmaster/magnaflow or corsa Xpipe.

I agree with ya, the stock is louder than previous years but not so loud that you get annoyed when ur trying to have a quiet ride home or listening to the radio. I was thinking about getting SLP loudmouths for a while, but I tihnk I'm going to wait until something happens to this exhaust system(ifi t ever does) before getting a performance kit.

The corsa X-pipes don't make it louder. I talked to a rep from Corsa. He said it actually makes the exhaust sound smoother. If you want loud just get their axle-back pipes.

the corsca's are very expensive, like 600 or more, dont know why. i'd get the flowmasters, or magnaflow's. and if your interested in the loud mouth's, wjen you get your car just take the mufflers off and your have loudmouth's. the LM's are just tips, no mufs.

Wierd I always thought it was the Xpipes that were 600 and the catbacks that were 250. I wonder why they are so expensive....
