With the price of gasoline these days, I do not want to have to run 91 octane in my new 5 speed GT that should be delivered in the next couple weeks. I was thinking that my 1st performance mod should likely be a CAI system with a tune to get as much HP gain and performance for the buck. I am also wanting to improve the laggy throttle response, I have heard can be corrected by some tunes? What tune and CAI system would you guys recommend for a 87 octane tune, and what kind of HP gain and improvements will I see?
No, the laggy response is from the "fly by wire". since throttle is controlled by the computer now, I guess that produces some lag in the timing. I think someone said it was because Ford put a conservative tune on the car.
The CAI will give the engine more air and allow it to breathe easier. It won't enhance the throttle response(I think the tune does that), the intake will improve overall performance I think.

The tune is what you need to remove the throttle lag. Ford puts it there to keep the cv joints on the two piece drive shaft from "clunking". That said, a cai will improve performance slightly. BUT it needs a tune to compensate for more air flow. The ecu cannot compensate enough and you will run lean without modifying a/f ratio. The best is to get a tune for your particular car from a tuner who can monitor a/f ratio on your engine throughout the rpm range. The canned tunes have a safe a/f ratio for all cars with the same mods. If you really need the 1-5 hp gain go with a custom tune for your car.
You'll lose 5-10? You mean you won't gain 5-10 from switching to 93 oct? I don't see how you can get a CAI and 87 octane tune and lose HP.
Twoscoops i think he's saying that going from 93 (or 91) to 87 you will lose 5 to 10 hp. Anyways, as for the answer to the question above ... GET EVOBAMABRENMD tune baby ... yeah! ... ok what i'm trying to say is this ... everyone will have their own opinion on this. We all will have biased opinions until we've all tried the tunes ourselves. But, basically you should get which ever tuner you feel is practical. If you are going for saving money, obviously Evo will be your bet. I picked BamaChips mostly for his tunes offered a performance and a torque tune ... i saw no reason needing three different octane tunes (MAKES NO ABSOLUTE SENSE, unless i wanted evo's 100 octane tune). But, we will not know the answer on who is the best tuner out there until MM && FF finally write the article on it (I contacted the editor at the magazine and he said they intend fully on writing an article soon on it). And as for the intake ... you basically get what you pay for ... C & L are nicer made, but are also more expensive. JLT and TI are cheaper, but also made from cheaper material ... but, still function just as well. I have another random question to people on the forum, why don't we share canned tunes (the tuners email them to us)? I mean there has to be people out there that have the same computer 4 digit codes. Also i can't imagine that the tuners out there would write each one different for your car, since they haven't even touched your car, and go based off of info you give them. I mean it's just food for thought.

91 Jeep Cherokee. It's my piece that I have to constantly fix, but can't justify getting rid of it, even with the woman harping on me that it's a waste of money. Do you hear me yelling at her for buying towels that I can't touch, cause it's "Decorative"?

What is MM && FF? I asked this before on here, but I can't remember what it is.
