Show to benifit Muscular Distrophy Having lost two cousins to Muscular Distrophy, I enthusiastically attended a rather interesting show in Petersburg, Virginia this weekend to benefit the MDA. There were over 300 cars attending of all different vintages including a firetruck display, motorcycles, and some odd-ball stuff. This was easily the largest show I've ever been in. The cars were absolutely amazing. There were 3 classes, Pre-1955, 1955-1973, and 1974-current, as well as Best of Show in each class. What was interesting was I was the only S197 Mustang in attendace. In past shows there were quite a few. There were a couple of other modern Mustangs, including a Bullit, and a couple of Mach 1's. I was parked between a '70 Judge GTO and a '66 Falcon. Nice stuff indeed. The second interesting thing is I met my first Snob. Normally, everyone at these shows is great. Most people, irregardless of car make, are more than willing to talk and answer questions. When awards were given out to some late model cars (including my '05), this rather rude individual announced very loudly that perhapse next time they should go to a car lot, buy a car, dust it off and enter it in a show. Now, I had a wonderful time. I would attend this show next year, even if I hadn't won a Top 25 out of about a hundred cars (Yes, I'm bragging here). It was a wonderful experience in support of a good cause. I'm there for the people and the fun. The award is just the icing on the cake. Why do people have to be so petty? I wish they would remember that:
a) at one time thier car was new. and
b) Not everyone can dump 80 grand into a restored show car.
If they want to be that competitive for a piece of plastic and partical board, why don't they enter some real concourse level contests? I'd bet they get their butt's whipped.
Anyway, I'll be back again. I had a great time.
