Default Front license plate bracket without drilling into your 'Stang!!

Hopefully this does not violate any posting rules (if so, please advise!)

After seeing some interest out there on this forum from those that don't want to drill holes into their front bumper for a front license plate (like me) , I just wanted to let those people know that there will be a bracket available soon for the 2005-current model Mustang.

I don't have any more details right now, but if anyone is interested let me know.

I've already drilled holes in mine, but is there anything solid behind the bumper to anchor it? It doesn't really feel like it, but my plate has stayed on okay so far.

It must suck having to be in a state that requires a front license plate, it takes away from the look of the front end.

Actually, Michigan doesn't have front plates. I just found a really cool pony logo mirrored plate, and that's what I have on mine. But I also like the "clean" look without the plate, so I see what you mean.

I went for months and months with no front plate (God bless the Lonestar state for making it illegal to NOT have a front license plate on your car. ) After a while, I was having a bit of work done on my car and the retards at the dealership put the dang front plate on my car without asking me. Yup. They drilled my baby.

Then go back and tell them to replace the bumper.

see now...I feel just the oposite....A car without a front plate looks empty. after having to have to run a front plate all these years..seeing my car without a plate looks lost. plus Ford designed the bumper with a plate in mind so front plates rock

Forget all that jazz. I am not going to go back to that place ever again. I'll just have to live with a front plate. Worse things can and HAVE happened.

This is the bracket you can find on Ebay. However this guy doesn't have one available at the moment.

When he does have one available, the price can go up as high as 50 bucks.

I went out and designed my own that I hope to sell later on EBay. Here is the first rendition of my 05-07 Mustang front license plate bracket....

What I did was to take a peice of 1/8" steel and bend it into a "C" so that it could fit around the upper part of the lower air intake. I then drilled a 3/8th hole for a thumbscrew which will secure the clamp to the bumper. I also drilled two 1/4" holes so that I could mount a Bell license plate bracket to the clamp..

http://webpages.charter.net/rvboyett/stang/plate1.JPG

As you can see, I put a rubber tip onto the end of the thumbscrew so that it won't even scratch the interior of the bumper. On the next version I plan to make the lower lip of the "C" clamp longer so that the Bell bracket won't get tied up with the automotive fastener that the thumbscrew goes through. I'll also incorporate a nut between the thumbscrew grip and the fastener and use it as a lock nut so the thumbscrew won't back off.
http://webpages.charter.net/rvboyett/stang/plate2.JPG

Here is the assembly attached to my front bumper.... I am also planning to rubberize the C clamp. This will give it more grip with the bumber and reduce the possibility of scratching...

http://webpages.charter.net/rvboyett/stang/plate3.JPG

And here is the finished product. Notice the license plate is a little crooked. The nice thing about the Bell bracket is that it is very adjustable. I have since straightened the plate out. I think I'll put a couple rubber bumpers behind the plate so it won't rub against the bumper if it begins to oscillate.

So if I start selling these, do any of you think you'd be interested. Obviously it isn't that hard to make, so those of you with shop tools, have at it. I'll let you know when I start posting these on Ebay.....

Here's a really cheap cover-up for anyone who's had to drill their bumper, and now wants to go without a plate. After my mirrored pony plate came off in the car wash, I had to cover the holes. I went to Lowe's and got some 1/4" white plastic plugs from the nuts & bolts dept. They fit in perfectly, and even have "wings" on the back to wedge them in the holes. I had to apply a dab of paint, since the plastic was semi-transparent (and looked blue against my white bumper), but it looks decent, and no more black holes in my white car. Cost me $1.04.

Hmmm...i just looked and noticd that the bumper on that V6 is different from the bumper on my V8. I don't have the area for the license plate like the one in the picture above.

No front license plate here either. I'll take the ticket rather than drill my car.
