Default Ford Dealer Nightmare And a Question To You All.

This may be old news to some but just wish to share my experience yesterday at a Ford dealer here in the Atlanta area.

Have a few minor issues with my 2006 GT and I took it into the dealer to have a TSB fixed and a rattle diagnosed/fixed. TSB 06-9-9 dealing with the fuel pump causing a “hesitation” after drive on the highway for an extended period of time and coming to a complete stop. When starting to accelerate the car would lurch for a moment then catch again and be fine. This is caused by air bubble(s) being sent down the fuel line via the fuel pump. Brought the TSB in with me and talked with the service manager for about 15 min explaining the problem and that I would like to have the fuel pump replaced with the revised model.

Service manager did not like the idea of me describing the problem with such detail and “diagnosing” it. Gave me tons of attitude and clearly could care less about the customer. Proceeded to tell me he would do nothing unless he could duplicate the problem even though the TSB says from Ford themselves that the issue usually only occurs after prolonged driving on the highway, for me it took a good hour of driving before the issue would happen. Thourghely argued this point with the knucklehead to no avail. Called them back about noon and was told by the manager they would not replace the pump because they could not duplicate the problem. I was also told that the rattle was caused by my intake bumping up against the engine compartment. Now this rattle only happens on cold start or when the car has been sitting for a bit. It is coming from underneath the stick, sounds exactly like something hitting the heat shield and has been happening since a week into owning the car. Months before any mods. Seems to be a bit louder in winter when the weather is cold.

So in my frustration I call up Ford to file a complaint and see if they could do anything. The whole reasoning of the dealer was that since he could not duplicate the hesitation if they pulled out the pump and replaced it with the REVISED version and Ford for what ever reason said the pump was fine the dealer would have to pay for the pump. Well ford documented the problem and complaint and had no clue even what a TSB was (fantastic…) After getting of the phone with Ford they call the service manager at the dealer and he proceeds to tell them what mods I have made and says to them the problem is due to my CAI and/or exhaust setup. Says also they won’t do anything because my warranty is void now. SUCH RETARDS! I get a call from Ford today telling me they won’t fix the issue because my warranty is void… I told them to “f*ck off and by law they have to prove that my modifications caused an issue. Shut the wench up in a heart beat and just hung up.

Well as last ditch effort I call up the largest ford dealer in the Atlanta area (45 min drive away instead of 10) and talk to the service manager and within 1 stinking min. he says no problem, just come on down and we will fix the problem. That is all it took. I was very happy but also very frustrated with such ignorance and lack of desire to solve and correct the problems. Will never go to Lou Sobh Ford again nor do I recommend to any of you this dealer. Stay away from ignorance and no desire for customer satisfaction.

Last thing:

Have any of you experienced and had this cold start rattle fixed? If so how and what was the issue?

Also have any of you been able to fix the leak from the break fluid reservoir. I have read that replacing the cap does not work and of course this is what the dealer wanted to do…

Just goes to show it’s all about the dealer and personnel. Also I am not surprised Ford is in as much trouble as they are with customer service as it is. I love my ride to death but this is just ridicules…

sounds like that dealer needs to educate his service department.
If the brake fluid res. is leaking around the cap its got to be the cap seal or there may be a crack in the neck of the reservoir. its got to be somthing simple.
Cold Start rattle?? explain-

The slow leaking brake reservoir is common on Fords. My car does it as well 3 other people I know with different year Mustangs.

It is a rattle that only happens for about 8 to 25 seconds depending on the weather conditions, how cold the car is. It really sounds like it is coming from underneath the stick and sounds exactly like a heat shield vibrating against the body of the car. I have looked for it some myself, pretty hard with no lift, but it has been there since a week after purchasing the car and I have read about others having the same problem. No clue what it is and can’t find any loose bolts. It’s not big issue but annoys the heck out of me being kind of a perfectionist. About all I can really describe about it. Once the car is warm it does not make this rattle whatsoever.

Cant speak for their service department, but I have purchased a LOT of parts from Parkway Ford parts dept. I think they are in the Atlanta area. I found them on E-Bay. Again, as I am in Phoenix, I cannot speak for their service department, but their parts dept. has been STELLAR to deal with, and I continue doing business with them. Very easy to deal with!!

Being from the Atlanta area I'm curious as to what dealer treated you right.

Allan Vigil in Marrow. But the proof will be in the pudding. I will let you know when I go and get the work done.

May be too far for you but I was very pleased with the service department at Covington Ford when I took my 05 in for some TSBs. I had printed out the TSBs, the service manager put the printouts with their service order and most of all she listened to me. In fact that is why I went to them to get my 06 GT last weekend.

I'm a Parts Manager at a BMW dealer and I see issues like this arise all the time. My feeling is that it's probably a directive from Ford not to change the fuel pumps without extensive research before replacing otherwise the repair will be kicked back to the dealer and they'll have to foot the bill of parts and labor. Of course there are better ways of conveying this to the customer than coming off like a total ahole and losing a customer in the process.

If the other service dept. can't or doesn't want to help you ask the service manager to speak with their Ford service rep.

The rattle is coming from a shield on the back of the manual transmission. There are two bolts that hold it in place and they have a habit of falling out. There's a thread somewhere in the Tech forum showing the picture. It happened to mine and I showed the picture to my service guy and they fixed it. No problems since. My dealer loves it when I bring the car in with the problem diagnosed for them. It cuts down on the time they have to spend on the car and they still charge Ford for the hours under warranty.

I took my car in for engine knocking that was fixed... but surprisingly, there's damage to my passenger door and they know nothing of it now. His "this car is brand new" remark is driving me crazy. I asked him about it and he said they didn't go near the door and he can get his body shop guy to fix it. It just drives me insane that they can damage a customer's car and come back with, "I dunno", and get away with it. I'm going to hit them where it hurts though, on the dealer survey and the Ford survey, unless the matter is resolved.

Most good service dept.'s will walk around the car with you when dropping it off for service and note any existing damage. If your car is flawless, it's a good idea to get into the practice of having them do this with you.

Yeah, he did a walk around and that's when he said it looks brand new still. I was like, "Yeah, I baby her.". So, his walk around yeilded nothing wrong, but now there's a gap... I'll let the pictures explain.

On the first picture, the left door, notice that there's no gap when looking straight down the side of the car:
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...bball/left.jpg

And, now the right side. I looks like something pushed in the bottom right of the door, so the line isn't smooth like it should be.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...ball/right.jpg

I've washed this car so many times I would've noticed something wrong. Plus, the door ajar light kept coming on and I was getting a beeping noise. Now, there's no beeping/light and they're going to deny everything.

Somebody else mentioned this on a different thread. I wonder if it's a hinge/alignment problem?

It was my thread. I'm still steamed about it. I was going to call him and ask him to check to see if the door was off. It's in there right now getting some molding replaced due to rattling. I just don't want to get too into it, because I can't pay for any work whatsoever, as I have like $12 in the bank...
