Driving in to work tonight (4 lane state hwy) I was passing an F-350 dually towing a race car when he decided he was also going to pull out without looking or signaling. I was right next to him and had nowhere to go. I laid on the horn but he kept on coming. So off into the median I went and the SOB just kept going. But I got a partial trailer plate # and called 911. Got out and waited for the police. They arrived in about 7 minutes and I filed a report. We checked out the car and found no visible damage so after about 25 mins I got back on the highway. Up ahead 10 miles the MD state troopers already had him pulled over. He was cited both for reckless driving and for leaving the scene of an accident (12 pts). And, he's going to have to come back to MD for court (he was from NY state). Claimed he didn't see me--troopers didn't see it that way. I just hope I find a crack in my front fascia. I'll take this guy to the freakin cleaners. Off to the shop tomorrow for a thorough inpection.
And... I was late for work! And the Steelers lost. This day has sucked on multiple levels.
People are so inconsiderate and stupid.. Just be glad you didnt wreck or get hurt..
It happened to fast I didn't have time to react or even give the guy the finger (which he truly deserved). I was fortunate that the median strip was very level (no ditches) and a more or less just coasted into the grass. I really don't think I did anything to the car but I'll probably at least have it aligned.
stlwagon, glad to hear you got out of that OK, but how did they ticket him for leaving the scene of an accident? I thought there had to be contact for that. Not that he didn't deserve it (and the finger, too).

OK, so I've added a few things to it. Check my Profile - too many to list here.

Thanks... I don't know all the ins and outs of MD traffic law but I guess since I called and waited for the police plus that the damage to my car is still actually undetermined. He may very well beat both tickets.

Well, if nothing else he's got to come to court. He won't enjoy that, for sure. He'll probably need to hire a lawyer, which'll cost him a few bucks, and depending on where he works he may even loose a day's pay. Hopefully, your car checks out OK. I think you did the right thing in reporting it.

You guys really seem to be hating on the guy. Would you really care if it was just some honda he ran off the road? I understand how much sh!t it is that the guy can't drive, but wishing that he looses a day of pay at work, hoping he gets many tickets, and generally being negative doesn't seem right.
I was almost side swiped by a minivan on a rainy day. I don't harbor any ill will towards them, just that they need to concentrate more on driving. Give the guy a break, it could've happened to anyone!

While I can agree that revenge is not the solution to idiot drivers, certainly the punishment should fit the crime. Almost side-swiping somebody at high speeds could have been deadly, and the driver deserves whatever punishment the court meets out(assuming he doesn't get out of the tickets). Moreover, I do not accept that "it could have happened to anyone", as according to the post by stlwagon, the other driver did not check the other lane properly before he moved into it. That is a basic driving skill that all drivers should possess and practice. And perhaps he had his radio up too loud, as he didn't appear to hear the horn honking either. Lucky for our friend stlwagon that he reacted quickly and put safety over being right.

Thanks... I'm not at all about revenge or I'd have gone right after him on my own. He screwed up, knowlingly left the scene, and got what he deserved. Plain and simple.
Jenkinsbball -- As for your comment about the Honda, grow up! I (and I'm sure 99% of the others on this board) wouldn't wish harm on anyone just because they drive a foreign car.
As for my car. No damage...Still, I had a 4 wheel alignment done just to be sure I didn't knock something out.

True. But, I'm tired of people pulling out in front of me, when there's nobody in sight behind me. I'm tired of people who cut me off. I'm tired of people tailgating me. I don't personally bear any of these people ill will. But, until people start driving with some sort of consideration, something needs to be done to get their attention that they're not driving safely. The only thing that gets peoples attention is when it hits them in their wallet. How else would that person know they're doing something dangerous if it's not pointed out to them? I'm not hating the guy. If he was towing a race car, perhaps his mind was on the race. But that means his mind wasn't on the road. That's how people get killed.

You were much nicer by calling the cops than I would've been for running me off the road.
I'm glad that they actually did their damned job there and pulled him over. At least he has some legal hassle to deal with for his stupidity.
My wife has called FHP (Flahriduh Highway Pooptrol) numerous times on @$$clown drivers only to be ignored.
They don't care, until you get hit by their radar gun.

I was surprised at the police response too. Especially since I was dealing with two agencies (county sheriff and hwy patrol). That guy may look twice before pulling out into traffic next time.
