This is just bothering me and i need some help to put my mind at ease. Does the convertible top show any wear and tear from normal use?
I live in NJ, and do not have a garage to park it in, so every time i put the top down, i am going to put the top up again. So, lets say on an average day the top goes up and down 6 times, is this going to wear out the motor or seals or anything?
Cause this worrying on my part is causing me top worry a lot about buying a new vert, mainly because i am going to drive this car into the ground (Expected life is going to be 20 years )
My vert is 16 months old, and absolutely no signs of wear and tear. All seals remain in tact, motor still operates as efficiently as brand new and no leaks anywhere. Now, I must also admit, I do not put the top up and down 6 times per day every day for my car is a weekend cruiser, and the top usually goes up and down 2-4 times on any day I drive it(depending on how many places I go with it).
My top goes up in the fall and down in the spring. Car only goes out in beautiful weather. My problem is that the top needs some help in getting hooked up in the fall, as is has been down with the boot on all season. Just put it back up last week.

I think i am going to have to get a vert with just not a ton of options in it and enjoy cruising with the top down that and a good audio system are all i need
I run mine almost daily. The top usually goes down in the morning and up at night. It's been topless so much the boot is faded. I've had it 18 months and no signs of wear.

I would love it, if my boot gets faded. cause here in NJ i don't have warm weather all year round. but, you have to give a guy props in a GT VERT in Jan, with the top down driving around
Being in New Jersey and parking the car outside, you will get more than normal wear and tear.
Use the car and have fun and when the time comes in about 5 years - replace the top.

The heater works very well for those cold mornings
I used to live in Pennsylvania and my dad had a '70 Torino GT vert. I'd pop the top any chance I had to drive it.

I bought my 07 Vert from its original owner and its been in my posession for 6 months (13k miles). I live in NYC so the top goes up and down frequently(6x a day sounds about rite) but its parked indoors.
The motor and rails are on great shape but the cloth top is starting to wear in the spots that fold over the rails, its not bad but you can see the discoloration a bit if your looking closely and i have a feeling they will get worse over time. I just thought that was a nornal thing for a cloth top, do you guys think i should i go talk to Ford about it? As soon as it gets cold im gonna take her in cause ive got a squeeky control Arm or brake they need to look at, so i may as well bundle that in. This will be my first interaction with a dealer, i am expecting the worst.
I'm in Staten Island and had a couple of convertibles, our area is pretty tough on tops. If you can live with a few drips and wear then go for it, warranty should cover it for the first 3 years at least.
I've had mine a year but its always garaged. The top works well but I've seen better. It is quite a big top so not always easy to latch and the inside material sometimes gets stuck under the rails on mine when raising it.
