Question Whats the most "NEEDED" Mod

A take off of the Best Attention Mod.

I know IMO the first thing that has to go is the mickey mouse shifter for the 5 speed. It reminds me of the old shifters Ford used to use years ago. The shifter wasn't my first mod, but after driving the car for about 150 miles yesterday, it should have been.

What's your opinion?

I'd have to go with the tried and true tuner and CAI combo. Although I don't have one ordered yet if I had the money it would have been my first performance mod. I don't mind the shifter so much but will probably go aftermarket with that as well at some point.

CAI and tune are the generally accepted best first mods for the S197, followed usually by axlebacks.

Default When do you NEED a Mod?

I'd say when something bad is about to happen.

Brakes. You can't have too much brake power.

Upgrade those brakes and rotors - I wonder if the GT500 systems are available after market? Baer and SSB make wonderful products. The 05+ stangs brakes are better than the older models, but still marginal for such a big and heavy performance car.

After brakes I would vote for a new short throw shifter - missing gears is no picnic.

The GT-500 brakes are available. Several have done it.

Count me in as a CAI/Tune for #1. Shifter #2, Exhaust#3. Then after the basics are done, Gear.

to be honest and in my opinion...i remember when i first got the cai and tune and raced another stang same year but stock...i barely noticed a diff...but when i got my gears...whoa baby....so i swear by gears...absolutely swear by them as the first and best thing a guy should get...i find that i like 3.73 the best cause i'm a highway man at heart...but on my and any future stang i get ...gears will always be my number one mod...assuming you arent including the big stuff in this thread....as for exhaust...its the best attention getter but other than that its sort of unnecessary on the new stangs

CAI and tune make the car so much more enjoyable to drive.

I do like your thinking except i would go with your numbers as 2,1,3. Even though I did do the CAI/Tune first.

Without a doubt a couple splash guards for the rear tires is first and foremost the #1 mod to have.

I'm the same way, I recommend gears to anybody as a first or second mod. After driving my car with the gears i was like holy crap. But after you drive your car without a tune in it youll be like what is this peice of crap. Try it, pull your tune and go for a ten minute ride. Dont go WOT if your worried about air fuel but just drive the car normal and youll see a huge difference.

I already did the Hurst Shifter, I'm leaning towards a CAI and Tune and 3:73 gears next !

If comfort and a more enjoyable riding experience is your thing then I would say the CAI/tune and shifter. If kick in the pants acceleration is your passion then I would go with 3.73s or preferably 4.10s.
