I have been looking at tires for a while now to put on my stock wheels so that I have a set of all season tires and a set of summer tires. anyway what size tires would look good on a non lowered car and work well for snow and ice. that don't cost a fortune. I have been looking at the kumho brand tires but the ones I have been looking at are 225/50r16 and i don't know how they would look on a stang that's not lowered. what do you guys think. feel fre to ofer suggestions. thanks.

Well you'd be going to a 2" shorter tire (27">24.85") so you'd have some more fenderwell gap without being lowered. Plus you're speedometer would need adjusted. A 255-55-16 would put you very close to the stock diameter (27.04")
yeah i noticed that the 255-55-16 was about the same size maybe I should look into that size a little more. would it be too wide though and run on my fender or inside fender well?

I don't believe you'd have any clearance problems.
well been looking and i can't find a tire in a 255-55-16 the closest size I could find was a 255-50-16 and that was all and it was a bfgoodrich g-force sport. so I don't know what tires I will get to put on my stock wheels? and I don't want the same tires as I have on my polished wheels. this is getting kind of frustrating. what do you guys think?

I thought that size would be perfect for my pony too, but the only thing in that size is an SUV tire... Yokohama Geolandar
And Kumho KL12 (can't read french)
Looks like we're SOL.
Why doesn't anybody have a website where you can punch in your stock info and get a list of optional sizes?
This is the 21st century after all!
Sorry I couldn't be more help.
Let me know if you find something.

You'll lose an entire inch in tire diameter (27.04" vs 26.03") I don't think you want to sacrifice that much height.

Yeah, TireRack is a good place to go but I have found they are pretty limited in size options and brands (no Blizzaks!). But here is a tire size calculator that shows you revolutions per mile, which is the easiest way to calculate how close a new size will be to your old one. And some stuff on why your tires should not be too wide or too narrow and how your wheel size works for you.
BTW, I *hate* the new sizing system. My old truck tires were 33x12.50-16.5 (low profile, at the time)
33 inches tall
12.5 inch tread width
on a 16.5 inch rim.
Man, any idiot can understand that. What is with the diameter/proportion to sidewall, bull crap?!?! Why in the world would I care about it's fractional proportion, if they can just write the actual dimensions on the tire?!?!
ordered my tires yesterday, I went to tire rack but all it would list was the stock size tires, so I ended up going with the 255/50r16 because I couldn't find a 255/55r16 that I liked. so I ordered the bfgoodrich g-force sport to use for summer tires and my stock tires i will use for winter. and a inch really isn't much when you think about it. so I will see what they look like when they come wednesday at work ( I work at a tire store) so I think that they will work out fine i hope. it was the closest size tire i could find that I actually liked. I can always send them back if they don't look good I guess. but they will only affect my speed by three miles an hour which isn't much.
