Best wheel performance overall. 20x10 / 20x8.5 vs. 18x10 / 18x8.5.
Just ordered a spring kit to lower mustang 1.25 and 1.4". Now looking for wheels for both look and performance. I'm looking into 20" bullitts deep dish. But do not want to loose any performance, hence increase wheel spin. I'm hoping the 10" rears will grip better with more rubber on the ground. Any suggestions and pictures.......
In general, straightline performance (i.e., traction) will suffer as tire sidewall height diminishes and the wheel dia increases. Cornering would be a different matter, though.

The normal driving will get a lot rougher because of lack of side wall give. Its like driving an old 4X4 3/4ton pickup. I have the 18 polished stockers and noticed a lot stiffer ride. Me would never go to 20s for that reason and I don't care for the looks. Just me.

been wondering the same thing and going back and forth on whether to to with 20's or 18's. AND, once you make the switch to deep dish billits, will you have enough clearance for a big brake kit, like 14 inch rotors on the front and 13's on rear? I was thinking Foose Nitrous rims but don't have any info about the clearances with big brakes. The Fire&Ice project went with the GT rims cuz they put on the 6 piston, big brake kit.
I like the ride quality, so I think I'll go with 18's... today... might change my mind tomorrow...
I've looked online and have found the bullits deep dish in 18,19 and 20 inch. I'm considering going with 19's to get a bigger wheel and not loose too much tire.. 19 x 8.5 and 19x10....just need to find them.....

I have just a few cm of clearance between the wheel and the caliper with the stock brakes. You will have clearance issues with a larger brake kit.
Trouble with 19's is that the tire selection is not very good. It's better if you stay at 18's or skip to 20's. (Unless you already know they are avail)

Funny, I was just researching new wheels and tires. Here is what I have found out:
I love the look of the 17 inch bullits on my car, so I made some phone calls to the popular sellers (all the ones we see in the magazines) of the replica wheels. Unfortunately, unless all you want is a show care, I am choosing not to go with the deep dish, or others as the weight is 28 to 35 lbs per wheel. I called several of the sites and they all seemed pretty consistent. I then called Steeda, and their Ultra Lite 1 model (they used to be for the SN 95 Stangs) were requested so much, that they came out with ones for our '05 and up stangs. They only weith 23 LBS each!!!! That is for an 18X9.5 wheel with the correct offset and will take a 275/40 tire. I got a real good price quote for a full set with tires, and I am probably going to go for them after I finish up with just a few more suspension items, i.e LCA relocation brackets, adjustable panhardbar, adjustable UCA.
Performance with 20's will suffer with the more power you add to the car. Personally, I love the way these cars look with them, but until I switch the car to it's track shoes traction is a serious issue. If you stay NA with minimal power mods I would think you would be ok.
I've also heard that with 20's, your braking footage is longer on stock brakes due to the increased inertia from the 20" rims. Anyone heard of or experienced that prob?

Not too concerned about weight, but maybe now that you mentioned it "thanks ALOT" JK. The steeda look good but still looking for that deep dish 10". 18's seem to be the best choice. 18x9.5 frt and 18x10 rear with a 295 rear tire. Any suggestions???????????
Watch your wheel weight...today I replaced my 20" chrome bullit 8/10 with the 18" black ones, they weighted too much, robbed some handling & comfort, robbed braking performance and robbed power (acceleration) definitely felt the difference in 5th gear off boost acceleration.
Cheers
